Black Lives Matter co-founder Alicia Garza will be a guest of Rep. Barbara Lee at President Obama's final State of the Union address Tuesday.

..........

Garza is a constituent's of Lee, who represents California's 13th Congressional District in the U.S. House of Representatives. Lee tweeted her excitement for the news on Jan 8.

Garza is one of three founding members of Black Lives Matter, which was formed after the death of Trayvon Martin in 2012 and the acquittal of George Zimmerman for the fatal shooting. After several more shootings of unarmed African-Americans followed, the organization gained steam and empowered a new generation of activists.

A list of President Obama's VIPs for the upcoming speech were recently released. They include Edith Childs, a woman whose chant at his rally, "fired up and ready to go," became Obama's unofficial campaign slogan, and Mark Davis, the first African-American to own a solar manufacturing company, which has created jobs in Washington, D.C.

that by taking the wind out of their sails by taking over. You let the people lead and the movement grow and evolve. Why do you think the GOP is so awful with the refrain All Lives Matter at every turn? BLM as and extra governmental rights organization is a threat to them.

finally speak out and protest is a testament to the environment created by Obama's presidency and the existence of the internet. People suffered in silence for 500 years. No longer are the silent. Obama is a part of that.

are fighting. The culture of strong drugs laws, Prisons for Profits, militarized local police, shooting POC dead in the streets, has been brought to us by the Oligarchy and Pres Obama has done nothing to stop this. Things are worse today than in 2008. People are more afraid to protest today than in the 1960's.

It is time to shut down the scourge of institutional racism, personal racism as well. While we might not be able to get our neighbors to stop being asshats, we can tell the government to stop militarizing the police force among other things.

I'm sure it will happen because I remember how so many people defended that type of tactic because it brought so much attention to the BLM issue.
