Publicity Seeking Anti-government Zealots

By now every one has heard that a group of well armed anti-government protesters has occupied several deserted buildings on Malheur National Wildlife Refuge near Burns, Oregon. They are apparently led by Ammon Bundy, the son of Cliven Bundy, the Nevada rancher infamous for his own weeks-long standoff with federal agents. Ammon Bundy claims the group is supporting two local ranchers convicted arson on the wildlife refuge, which of course is federal property. he also says the group also wants the land which makes up the refuge returned to local rangers.

(snip)

Based on what I have seen and read about Bundy and his group of anti-government zealots, they are not really concerned with the plight of the local ranchers. What they really crave is national media attention to publicize their anti-government rhetoric in hopes of igniting a widespread anti-government movement across the country. Always looking for ratings, so far the TV networks and cable news organizations have be more than happy to oblige.

Many on social media have been calling the armed protesters “terrorists” and referring to them as Y’all Qaeda. They are calling for the government law enforcement to physically remove the protesters which could easily lead to violence. I have even received a emailed request to sign a petition to have the protesters arrested. I wrote back saying, this is a dumb idea. Government agencies like the FBI have learned hard lessons from past violent clashes with armed anti-government groups at Waco, Ruby Ridge, etc. Federal authorities are giving every indication that they are not going to give Bundy and his group what they want, the publicity of an armed confrontation with local and federal law enforcement. There is presently no confrontation because law enforcement is no where to be seen around the wildlife refuge. It takes two to tango and Bundy and his group are without a dance partner.

(snip)

Despite the clams to the contrary, the protesters are occupying public property for one reason and one reason only – publicity. Take away the national publicity they are receiving and it won’t be long before they will decide pack up and go home. However, due to the rights provided to the press by the First Amendment of the Constitution, only the news media can make the decision to no longer attend their news conferences, interview their leaders, or even cover their activities with cameras from afar. Given their obsession with ratings, and the fact that they are normally drawn like flies to molasses to this kind of story, this will not be an easy decision for news organizations to make. However, these organizations make decisions on a daily basis whether it is in the public’s best interests to cover stories like this one.

You can help your favorite news organization make the decision to deprive these zealots of the media attention they crave but don’t deserve. Please contact your favorite news source and make your voice heard.

what and who of the John Bircher's and their messages and money supporters. Harken back to the days of Lyndon Larouche and his Propaganda. Notice the similarities. This bunch are the IAP (Independent American Party) or the John Brichers of the LDS Church. Most of their followers are in Southern Utah and Northern Clark County Utah as well as what is called the Arizona Stripe. Mostly interrelated by birth and marriage or connected by church Wards. Remember Fred Koch was one of the John Birch Society founders as well as Esra Taft Benson .

as far as this Group, just kind of a wink and a nod. One has to live in the area to really get the lay of the land and the Polictical Power Structure and how is works. Utah is a modern day Theocracy.

3. I stopped at 'deserted buildings' which is not the case, they took over buildings which are in use.

winter. Instead of being open today their website says this: "An unknown number of armed individuals have broken into and occupied the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge facility near Burns, Oregon. While the situation is ongoing, the main concern is employee and public safety...."

A deserted building is not the visitor center of a park that should be open today.

I have been there many times. I stood on that deck and watched a great horned owl in the pine tree. I was born in Burns, but we moved away when I was 7. I feel confident that most of the local people will be disgusted by this illegal action. They host school groups and bird sightings are shared at the visitor center.

there are a number of buildings in a concentrated area otherwise known as a "compound". Within that compound there is the Visitor Center building which has within it, offices and other nonpublic purpose rooms. Other buildings include a motor pool which likely includes a shop, which is probably where the grader and dozer were moved from and probably other vehicles used by the employees. And there is probably a small complex of housing units for staff. Perhaps those are closed for the winter but there may be permanent residents out there too. There could be other structures, however for a facility of that type, remote and year-round, they would have the elements of a compound much as i described above.

If the facility was to be open to the public today, then it was not unoccupied when the kkklown show arrived, it simply wasn't within hours of operation.

The facility was due to be open, there are winter users beyond just the local school.

Of course the Refuge is closed NOW that the Royal Order of Deranged Buffoons has decided to camp out there with their gunz and ignorance.
