They're screaming their constitutional rights by taking over and holding a federal U.S. building which is against the law, as far as I know. But common sense doesn't work with these gun nuts; they only understand what they want and don't care how they go about getting it. Cliven Bundy is another example of this kind of dimwit approach, with his 2014 Nevada deadlock, and his son, Ammon Bundy is leading the latest skirmish. The senior Bundy still owes the federal government more than $1 million.
If I owed the Gov one dollar they would slap a lien on my home in minutes. Why aren't the Feds doing this to Bundy? MSNBC reports, "Ammon Bundy told the 'TODAY' show on Monday that his group has no intention of committing violence unless the government intervenes. But at the same time, he refuses to rule out violence if the building is raided."
The only violence that, if it comes our way, will be because government is wanting their building back, Ammon Bundy told Natalie Morales. Were putting nobody in harms way. We are not threatening anybody. Were 30 miles out of the closest town.
"Wanting their building back;" of course the government wants their building back. After all they need it to conduct business for the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge. So these lamebrains are setting the Gov up to do their job by removing them, saying the resulting violence will be their fault. Were putting nobody in harms way. We are not threatening anybody. Were 30 miles out of the closest town. What kind of stupid reasoning is this? Oh, forgot, we're dealing with gun nuts.
President Obama should send in his best SWAT team and if these double-digit IQs with a "...morbid interest in firearms out of a belief that they provide protection, security and freedom while appearing scary to the uninitiated," (Urban Dictionary) resist, then well, shoot em.

(86,817 posts)send in the SWAT team to shoot out the windows and leave. Those idiots will be pretty damned cold in a hurry and they will go insane staying on guard 24/7 waiting for the nest volley. They're so paranoid already, being cold as hell and on total alert for a few days and nights...
Especially if they can't use their cell and satphones. I saw that one of the kklowns had a two-way radio but if the frequencies are jammed, that will be useless too. That handset looked like what the Park Service and other fed agencies use, easy enough to disable those.

Try the decaf, it will help.

(38,958 posts)While I completely oppose the take over of this facility by this rather "charming" group. I see no need to resort to violence at least for now. Cutting of their water and electric is a good first step. I would up that by also finding a means to cut off their cell phones, so that they cannot speak to the media. I am sure there is some means of doing so and imposing a news blackout. As the participants drift away and they will once it becomes uncomfortable and they lose the spotlight, they should be arrested and charged for the appropriate crimes committed.

So far they've aired their grievances peacefully and frankly I think that the general public indifference to their issue is far more likely to bring it to an end than than imposing a communications blackout that will just give rise to conspiracy theories and more paranoia.

(13,889 posts)Twice in the past decade I have received letters from the IRS telling me I owed extra taxes and that I'd better pay up. One time they were right, but I was lazy about sending it in. They sent me another letter to advise me that they'd charged me an additional $2 in interest and that I should really get on top of it. My check cross that letter in mail and when I called them up they told me not to worry about it.
This year they wrote and said I owed them $1000. I guessed what the problem was and sent them the relevant documentation. they asked again a month later. This time I enclosed a short letter and another copy of the documentation explaining why I thought they were in error. They agreed, and wrote back to apologize and advise me that I would be receiving a refund instead.
As regards these yahoos in Oregon, I have no sympathy for them but if you look at historical parallels the government usually takes its time unless there's some imminent threat to life involved, notwithstanding the existence of structural racism and so on. Even in past situations where there has been unjustifiable use of force against political protesters, it has generally come at the end of a very protracted standoff.
I don't want to ever be the target of a raging authoritarian overreaction, but nor do I ever want to promote such a thing against others even when I hold completely opposite political views.
