If these ranchers plan to stay for "years" then how about a siege? It seems like a good solution.

There are people, including news writers on the web, who don't know what a siege is. Some reports even state that the ranchers themselves have staged a siege, which makes no sense. Google defines a siege as "a military operation in which enemy forces surround a town or building, cutting off essential supplies, with the aim of compelling the surrender of those inside."

To me this seems like the ideal solution here. Just declare the area restricted federal land and cut off all civilian access from outside. Then wait until they surrender out of sheer hunger.

I'd hate losing access to that rather wonderful little facility, but if it takes care of these assclowns without bloodshed, it's worth it.

out of in-fighting.

Imagine that refuge HQ as something like GDP. Nothing to do but complain about the plan and to argue with each other about whose plan should be considered the next best plan.

they'll throw in the towel fairly soon. There's no way they could have mysteriously stockpiled enough wood too keep a fire going to keep themselves warm through the winter. Either come out or freeze to death. Their choice.
