(53,235 posts)of this BS. I'm a woman. I've known lots of other women. It's not a hard decision at all.
And, yes, I know the point about the photo is that men shouldn't decide women's rights to make their own decisions about their medical treatments.

(63,912 posts)I never had an abortion but worked for a reproductive health care clinic in town. Women usually didn't seem distraught by the clinic or he upcoming procedure. They got upset with the protesters who were after them with their signs and yelling.
I think the degree of difficulty is in how they are treated by their loved ones. If their decision is truly theirs and some in the family at least are supportive and understanding, it will be a lot less uncomfortable for them. If they get adequate drugs before the procedure it makes the whole process that much easier to get through.
Not everyone needs counseling, tho. It's good to offer it but it implies the woman has difficulty in making the decision. Some do but not all. I think it is best to trust women who say "I don't need counseling, I'm fine with my decision to terminate this pregnancy" and that should be it.

(53,235 posts)decision as to whether they may or may not have an abortion BEFORE they find out they're pregnant, so it's not the hardest decision to make. In fact, I never knew a woman for whom abortion was a hard decision (but that's only anecdotal).
As long as we women keep this "hardest decision" meme alive, it makes it easier for TPTB to take our reproductive rights away from us.
BTW, everything you say totally rings true to me! Kudos to you for working in the clinic. It takes real courage to do that in America and has for decades.

(63,912 posts)We had bands of Clinic protectors who formed human chains around the clinic and it was a wonderful thing to see!
It was a terrible time for some less enlightened communities' clinics but I learned a lot from the experience. My poor mother was worried about me but she was very supportive of what I was doing and was furious at men who were trying to tell women what to do.

(40,656 posts)get the point. I don't know anyone who had an abortion that felt it was the hardest thing they ever did. But that's just my anecdotal reference point. I think the guilt they trip onto this makes it harder for some then it probably would be.
