Obama to meet with Loretta Lynch to discuss 'epidemic of gun violence'

Associated Press in Honolulu
Friday 1 January 2016 14.09 GMT

President Barack Obama will meet on Monday with attorney general Loretta Lynch to discuss executive actions he could take to make it harder for “a dangerous few” to get their hands on guns.

Obama said on his weekly radio address that he gets so many letters from parents, teachers and children about the “epidemic of gun violence” that he can’t “sit around and do nothing”.

“The gun lobby is loud and well organized in its defense of effortlessly available guns for anyone,” Obama said. “The rest of us are going to have to be just as passionate and well organized in our defense of our kids.”

The source, a member of a gun control advocacy group, was not authorized to discuss details before the announcement and spoke on condition of anonymity. White House officials won’t confirm the timing.

4. Very funny.

The US-states defend their right to conduct national US-elections with a patchwork of outdated and partisan rules back from the good old days when the fall-harvest determined when people had the time to drive their horse-chariot to the polling-place.

Police departments refuse to count and report how many people they shoot.

What makes you think, a red state would bother keeping an accurate database of gun-owners, when it would be so much easier to screech "oppression" and defend your 2nd Amendment-rights against the non-existent "War on Guns" while soliciting donations from a bunch of republican idiots?

"First the War on Christmas! And now they want databases of all gun-owners! That's how it started with the Jews in Germany! Databases! Who you are and where you live!"

Don't you think we can at least try to make background checks work?

16. Not as long as politicians have monetary incentive to sabotage the process.

If a politician has the choice to either do the right thing and get no reward or do the wrong thing and get publicity and fame and money and a chance for even more power, what will he do?

Do you really think that every republican politician who denounces LGBT-people or the violent culture of African-Americans or the inherent violence of Islam or the shady ways of latino immigrants or the people who left Christianity behind actually has ill feelings towards those people?
Railing against gays is what gets you donations from bigots.
Railing against blacks is what gets you donations from hidden racists.
Railing against Muslims is what gets you donations from open racists.
Railing for the return of Christianity gets you donations from people who don't like that their demographic no longer holds absolute power.

Take McCain, Romney or Jeb. Perfectly mainstream. But they will spout the most vile garbage if it means money and a shot at power.

10. Then the sellers are not licensed gun dealers

the laws in a gun show are exactly the same as the laws outside of gun shows. If gun dealers are selling guns without checks then they are breaking the law.

I said close the gun show loop holes and this is one of those loop holes.

You'll not get another response from me, good day

19. Again, there is no gun show loophole. Unless you are fixated on convention centers,

I can sell a shotgun over my kitchen table to a neighbor, and it is just fine by law. The "Gun Show" loophole is merely a mediagenic expression for what legally goes on all over the country Legally.

Now, if you want to expand the BG checks to include all sales, make a proposal. In the mean time, Gun shows will continue, and I will continue to visit them.

Besides I didn't say anything about stopping gun shows. I said close the loop holes, big difference. Except if you just want to argue with me and then in that case I'll see you later. I don't have time for bullshit nor will I take time.

right now any gun sale through a licensed dealer creates a permanent record of that sale.
