in the general election. This is being touted on every right wing site.
How can people be that delusional?

Forty percent of black voters support Trump over anyone else, according to the new poll, while 45 percent of Hispanic voters back the Republican presidential front-runner. Trump was supported by 37.7 percent of all whites. Overall, Trump was favored by 37.8 of respondents. Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, was a distant second at 23.1 percent.
The poll showed 60 percent of those who consider themselves very liberal supporting Trump. Trump received 40 percent support among liberals and 41 percent among both moderates and conservatives. By party affiliation, Trump gathered nearly 40 percent of the GOP voters' support, 31 percent of the independents and 26-plus percent of the Democrats.

(17,215 posts)He was the handsome and personable matinee idol who was going to ride in on a white horse and make America feel good about itself again. And since America was feeling pretty lousy in the late 70's, that idea had a lot of appeal to persons of more-or-less good will. The racism and bigotry were downplayed, as were all the facets the RW economic ideology. With Trump, the appeal is only to visceral hatred, and I doubt there is enough of that, even now in the U.S., to win over anyone undecided.
The real question, IMO, is whether anyone will bother to vote. We know the bigots will.

You know, the man has an obvious and diagnosable full-blown personality disorder. It's considered unethical for psychologists to label people they haven't formally assessed, but in this case some are speaking out in public, feeling a duty to do so. IF he were to get the nomination and people no longer tippytoed nervously around him, trying to keep this loose flywheel from destroying the GOP, as now, Hillary's camp would slice and dice him. He's not just dysfunctional and profoundly incompetent, he's extremely vulnerable because of it.

It makes sense in their warped world view.
Remember "Unskewed Polls" predicting Romney in a landslide?
They just don't rationalize it to themselves, they set up the infrastructure that somehow "proves" their rationalization.

(6,342 posts)This election is going to be far closer than you think. You look at the head-to-head general election match-ups and Hillary isn't exactly running away with this.
Republicans don't need to win the Hispanic vote, they just need to win enough of them. Then you combine that with the Democrat's increasing problem with white men slowly drifting away from the party and you may end up with a very close election. Hillary doesn't have the outsider mentality and motivation that Obama had. To think she's simply going to automatically adopt his coalition by winning the nomination is completely ridiculous.
Also, one terrorist attack by ISIS next year may be enough to tip the scales the other way. Don't underestimate fear. It makes people do irrational things.

(154,021 posts)there are actual minorities who will actually yes, indeed, VOTE FOR TRUMP.
They have told me this.
I believe they are outliers, but they do exist.

(7,300 posts)I've talked to a couple of Mexican-Americans that are voting for him, too.

(154,021 posts)At this point I still believe this is an outlier, mostly not enough data, but once I get more data, I might revise that opinion if the data confirms that this is more widespread than outliers.
People keep under estimating Trump. I went and said it back in the Summer, at RSD, yes on the record, that Trump is activating fears, and has a very good chance of getting the nomination I have more recently called him a fascist too. So sue me.

(642 posts)From WND (I hate to link here but in case you don't believe me)
The question: If you were voting today in your states primary or caucus election for the Republican nomination for president, and the candidates were, in alphabetical order, Jeb Bush, Ben Carson, Chris Christie, Ted Cruz, Carly Fiorina, John Kasich, Marco Rubio and Donald Trump, for whom would you vote?
So they have a random (small) sample of registered voters, that includes both Democrats and Republicans and ask them if how they would vote if they were to vote in the Republican primary. This is ridiculous.

Is it a charisma thing where it doesn't necessarily matter what is said, but how it is said (forcefully, passionately, sincerely, etc)?
Kind of like how we like certain actors even when they play dispicable characters. Politicians will pay a lot of money to learn how to do that (I think it comes natural for Obama). I'm sure Trump learned a lot via entertainment media training. W probably came by it naturally, too. Sadly, many people saw him as genuine and likable. I had a friend who had a mad crush on him and was also a big Obama supporter. This is not a stupid woman, either. She does, however tend to be impressed by fame.

(154,021 posts)my aunt (RIP) was a case study in this in Mexico, It did not matter to her what they said... just how they looked. Tall, lean handsome men... and yes there are studies in the US that show the same. Why things like step stools are used behind podiums to make pols of different heights be at the same height.

(13,390 posts)Obviously appearance factors like youth and attractiveness attract some voters, too. Since Nixon the relevantly younger of the two wins with the only exception being an actor.

(7,412 posts)it's not impossible. I think the appeal can be attributed to single issue voter thinking. These guys are gun enthusiasts and are big 2nd amendment supporters, they literally think all Democrats want to take away their guns. I've been trying to educate them a little by pointing out that Bernie has a relatively strong pro-gun background among Democratic candidates, Hillary is pretty unpopular though.

(3,109 posts)is a fraud. Seeing an article like this would scare the "True Believers" away, since it implies that Trump would have strong liberal minority support. Exactly those whom the hard right hate and fear the most.
This is clearly the work of those inside the Republican establishment who want to derail Trump. This line of attack isn't going to bring Progressives to Trump's cause, but it will alienate a good portion of the core Republican Electorate.
