They came from miles around you could see them walking the airport road as early as 8 a.m.
Men with few possessions on Christmas morning, maybe a backpack or duffel. A sleeping bag lashed to the back.
Behind the car rental shop on Abbott Drive was the destination the Open Door Missions mens center for Christmas brunch. Simple, hot: sausage links, eggs, roasted potatoes, and plenty of juice and milk.
The director of the Garland Thompson Mens Center, Pat McKernan, has beds available, work placement help, drug addiction programs and so forth, but participation in none was a requirement on Christmas. No one, McKernan said, got turned away Friday.
