Christmas in Williams Park

Months ago my son Jackson and I made a pact - this year we agreed to go easy on the gifts for each other, and try instead to give something (anything) to those who might not make it onto anyone's Christmas list in 2015.

So last weekend we went to downtown St. Petersburg and worked with an organization named Hannah's Homeless. The HH organizers were in Williams Park handing out food, blankets, and jackets to the homeless. Jackson and I were tasked with making Christmas PB&Js in case the real food ran out. It did, but no one went away without a PB&J.!

Today we tried a mini-event of our own. Last night I went to Subway's and ordered enough turkey sandwiches to feed (after some creative carving) 50 people. It cost me less than $100.

I could have ordered more, but we didn't think we would find 50 people in the park on Christmas. I wish I would have tripled the order, because our Turkey sandwiches didn't last 20 minutes, and we only fed about a third of the people there.

Again, it cost me less than $100 bucks. I don't know how to measure the ROI on that investment, but I do know that we made 50 people feel a little more human on the holiday. I also know that I felt like a million bucks. Still do. Hope my son passes the memory of this event on to his kids when he's ready to be a dad.

Please throw a few buck to Hannah's Homeless at the link below, they're good people doing good things, and they need your help.

You get the world you make friends, so make the world you want.

Merry Christmas everyone...
