Full moon to shine early Christmas Day for first time in almost 40 years

For the first time in 38 years, a full moon will shine early Christmas Day.

The full moon, which hasn’t been spotted on Christmas since 1977, will peak Friday at 5:11 a.m. CST.

Too bad skywatchers in the Omaha area may not see the uncommon event. The National Weather Service Office in Valley called for partly cloudy skies Thursday night into early Friday. Christmas Day’s forecast called for mostly cloudy skies.

The last full moon of the year is called the "Full Cold Moon" because it occurs during the start of the winter season, which began late Monday night.

It's so hot down here in Florida that people are still swimming at the beach. Crazy Christmas for sure.

I'm heading down to Asheville, on Saturday, hoping that my nephew's baby girl will be born and waiting for me to give her a cuddle.

The only good moon to an astronomer is either a new moon, which has no sunlight reflection, or one that is on the sun side, on the opposite side to the night side.

Astronomers hate the Moon. It is the second brightest object in the sky and it wipes out every other object.

Even lunar astronomers hate the full moon because there are no shadows.
