Is that by Susan Seddon Boulet? I loved her work, and found her illustrations for Ursula LeGuin's Buffalo Gals Won't You Come Out Tonight to be the perfect marriage of word and image.

Can't you guys keep things simple and take nature at face value?

Human beings don't take anything "at face value." We can't. Everything (literally) is interpreted and analogized the moment the perception enters our minds. Meaning is never found, it is always created.

Why does it surprise you that other people would form different analogies and interpretations, or create different meanings out of different ideas than you do? Why is that a problem?

Reminding them that their own materialism is based on an unprovable belief in the existence of an objective universe doesn't seem to cut much ice, for some reason.
Now that belief triggers me!

1- because it's not healthy to have my fellow homininae great apes believe in strange, weird, unprovable things which often command them to do violence unto others.

2- because it's a waste of homininae great apes intelligence, which would be better used to cure cancer or prepare counter measures for the next asteroid to threaten our little planet.

I could probably think of other ills of religions, but that should cover the 20/80.

This is no more or less crazy than any other religion out there. Enjoy it if you want to believe in it.
