At the end of the day, posting a movie spoiler is a very small thing.

But I'll be damned if I can wrap my head around anyone's need to do something so unnecessary and ass-holeish. It serves no earthly purpose other than to spoil (thus the term) someone else's viewing experience. If you take pleasure in that, then you're wired differently than am I.

it's a deliberate attempt to spoil another person's bit of enjoyment, surprise, whatever...basically passive/aggressive nonsense.

*Thelma and Louise spoiler below, if that warning is necessary*

When Thelma and Louise first came out on video, a friend told a co-worker that she was planning to pick up the movie on her way home and was excited to see it, had missed it the the theater. Co-worker said "Oh, I loved that movie until the end when they drove off the cliff."

Pure nasty.

She wasn't being mean, I don't think. She was just so excited at the news.

but with adults? I do think it's often mean-spirited, and when they get called on it they immediately go into non-cool defense mode - "Movie/show/book has been out for DAYS, it's not my fault that you haven't seen it *because if you were one of the cool kids you would have moved heaven and earth to see/read it the day it came out*.

especially now, with so much open and immediate communication.

I mean, really, how you gonna keep a secret with Facebook and Twitter out there?

I'm not so into it that i can't wait until Redbox or cable, but out of curiosity, i found the synopsis on line and read it.

Took me 30 seconds to find a several paragraphs that described the whole plot and storyline.

That being said, i wasn't gong to do an OP that said "Guess What?" and reveal the big moments.

book, watch a TV show or see a movie so we don't spoil each other. Her bf is a huge Star Wars fan, he wanted to avoid some of the crowds so he is seeing it tomorrow night and would be heart broken if someone spoiled it for him. . I think we're still within the window when people shouldn't spoil it or at the minimum give an obvious warning if they have to.

The spoiler I saw on DU was not even in a thread about Star Wars. It was just plain mean-spirited.

Because, as you say, it's small potatoes compared to other issues. It's the sheer, unabashed, "I'm being an asshole here and I don't care if it pisses you off" attitude that makes it so egregious. I just don't have any room in my life for such people and if you (not you OP) ARE that kind of person you make the world a shittier place by existing.
