For a change in pace, here's some news, Slovenia voted on Same-Sex Marriage and Adoption today...

[div class="excerpt" style="margin-left:1em; border:1px solid #bfbfbf; border-radius:0.4615em; box-shadow:-1px -1px 3px #999999 inset;"]Slovenia on Sunday held a referendum on whether to give same-sex couples the right to marry and to adopt children, its second vote on gay rights in three years.

Parliament passed a law in March giving same-sex couples the right to marry and adopt children but the measures have not been enforced yet because a civil society group called For Children appealed to the top court, calling for a referendum.

...

The law will be overturned on the joint conditions that the majority of participants in the referendum reject it and that they make up at least 20 percent of all registered voters. Latest opinion polls showed that the result, which is expected late on Sunday, will be tight.

And, of course, one of the leading campaigners against the law, the Catholic Church:

Pope Francis is urging Slovenians to reject marriage equality and restore heterosexual-only marriage.

Last February, the Slovenian parliament passed an amendment to that country's Marriage and Family Relations Act, giving marriage and adoption rights to same-sex couples. Anti-gay groups responded by collecting over 40,000 protest signatures, enough to demand a referendum on the law. Tomorrow, Slovenians will decide by popular vote whether or not to keep the marriage equality amendment, or to strip away from gay Slovenians the marriage and adoption rights approved by their elected officials.

Ahead of that all-important vote, Pope Francis, who the LGBT community once hoped would be more accepting of gays, has urged Slovenians to "uphold family values" and vote against marriage equality.

"I wish to encourage all Slovenians, especially those in public capacity, to preserve the family as the basic unit of society," the Pope said Wednesday, just four days before the upcoming vote.
