It was only a few years ago that U.S. military veterans in civilian attire were authorized to render a salute. And even then, the Marine Corps Commandant "advised" Marine vets not to do it.

When not in uniform during retreat, you stood at attention and faced the flag. I still place my hand over my heart in civilian clothes even though they say you an now salute. Old habits die hard, i guess.

What are we going to do now... move for impeachment of our standing President?

Trump stood somewhat similar to Obama as seen at a Tom Harkin event some years ago:

I'm sure the lack of outrage is because his supporters are rationalizing it by saying the anthem isn't worth respecting after seven years of that black guy in the White House. Only they don't say "black guy." You know they don't.

Then again, the confusion might be that he has no heart to put his hand over.

would STOP everything else and focus with single minded intensity on this. If one of the Dems did it, same thing.

Remember when Obama didn't wear a flag pin? And the media harped and harped and harped and questioned and questioned and questioned. By golly, they hashed the whole thing over until it was more mush than hash.

But now, a fascist fails to put his hand over his heart. He's talking about killing Muslim families, rounding up Muslims, massive deportations and walls. His brown shirts are beating up people in the streets and at rallies.

Do we hear anything about that from the msm? Nope. There have been a few feeble protests, but when Rump and his followers stage a coup, and impose a fascist dictatorship on this nation, it will be too late for all of us for many dark years. In the meantime, we who are regulars on places like this are fucked because we will be rounded up with all the other non-desirable people and sent to camps where we can perform slave labor for the military industrial complex.

You think it can't happen here?

all other persons present should face the flag and stand at attention with their right hand over the heart, and men not in uniform, if applicable, should remove their headdress with their right hand and hold it at the left shoulder, the hand being over the heart
