Woman Discovers Petrified Frog in Box of Barilla Pasta

http://www.thedailymeal.com/eat/woman-discovers-petrified-frog-box-barilla-pasta/121615

A woman in Minnesota reportedly discovered a petrified frog inside a box of tri-color penne pasta from Barilla — after she had already used some of the pasta. “I had used one-half of the box and put the other half in the cupboard, then my husband knocked it off the shelf,” Minnesota resident Penny Hagen told Fox 9. “The pasta fell directly on the floor with the petrified frog.”

Barilla has since opened an investigation into the incident, telling Fox 9, “Barilla is aware of the isolated report regarding a foreign element in a box of Barilla pasta. Once we received this report, we immediately took action to coordinate directly with the consumer and have connected via phone, email and mail. We have also retrieved the product in question to investigate any deviation from our manufacturing and packaging processes.”

Hagen, however, remains unsatisfied with Barilla’s response, including their offer to send coupons for her troubles. Hagen also told the station that she believed Barilla thought she might be making up the story, but Hagen insists, “My kitchen floor is very clean, and I would not have a petrified frog laying on it. I could eat off my kitchen floor.”

Barilla maintains that the frog could not have entered the supply chain “while the product was under Barilla control.”

I didn't know she would get all bent out of shape over a little petrified frog!

Barilla is my favorite pasta...especially multigrain.

If I stopped eating everything that some idiot CEO says or thinks, I'd starve. I am gay too but believe he can think as he chooses in this country. Perhaps Iran he might be in trouble for speaking his mind but thank goodness we still can.....for now.

What, specifically, does she want?

Barilla is apparently trying to figure out what happened. One of the primary things of likely interest to them will be the species of frog and its habitat. Apparently, she believes that Barilla is supposed to just take her word for it.

From another report:

"She then reached out to Barilla and AIG Insurance."

She put in an insurance claim? For injuries suffered by the frog?

That frog looks pretty good if it had been packed in a box of dried pasta, shipped, and survived a fall from the cupboard without breaking any digits.

"But Hagen said she’s frustrated that the company only offered to send her coupons, and believes she should be further compensated --“I think Barilla has not taken this as serious as they should have,” she said."

Oh, they aren't taking it seriously by communicating with her, offering to replace the product and investigating how it could have happened?

How much does she think they owe her?

Hubby knocks package to floor, pasta goes all over the place, and I would think that would need some sweeping in some infrequently swept places in order to collect the pasta from wherever it scattered.

That her first reaction is to call her insurance company, when no one has been harmed by anything, suggests to me that she thinks there is a payday here.

She may honestly believe the frog was in the pasta box in the first place, but nobody saw it in the pasta box, only in the floor sweepings.
