Text of the email regarding the LA school district:
Something big is going down. Something very big. It will make national headlines. Perhaps, even international ones. You see, my last 4 years here at one of the district high schools has been absolute hell. Pure, unmitigated, agony. The bullying, the loneliness, the rejection... it is never-ending. And for what? Just because I'm 'different'?
No. No more. I am a devout Muslim, and was once against violence, but I have teamed up with a local jihadist cell as it is the only way I'll be able to accomplish my massacre the correct way. I would not be able to do it alone. Me, and my 32 comrades, will die tomorrow in the name of Allah. Every school in the L.A. Unified district is being targeted. We have bombs hidden in lockers already at several schools. They are strategically placed and are meant to crumble the foundations of the very buildings that monger so much hate and discrimination. They are pressure cooker bombs, hidden in backpacks around the schools. They are loaded with 20 lbs. of gunpowder, for maximum damage. They will be detonated via Cell Phone. Not only are there bombs, but there are nerve gas agents set to go off at a specific time: during lunch hour. To top it off, my brothers in Allah and I have Kalashnikov rifles, Glock 18 Machine pistols, and multiple handheld grenades. The students at every school in the L.A. Unified district will be massacred, mercilessly. And there is nothing you can do to stop it.
If you do end up trying to, by perhaps, beefing up security, or canceling classes for the day, it won't matter. Your security will not be able to stop us. We are an army of Allah. If you cancel classes, the bombings will take place regardless, and we will bring our guns to the streets and offices of Los Angeles, San Bernardino, Bakersfield, and San Diego.
I wish you the best luck. It is time to pray to allah, as this may be your last day.

I can see, reading it, although it sounds like boasting crap, you still wouldn't want to ignore it, given the short time line.
In the 1980s, it might be ignored as crap, but it's all too real nowadays.

(54,013 posts)The author, I'm guessing not even a current HS student, went into a lot of details there. Dumb details, but there is a LOT of anger behind that
treated it right, seeing it as an obvious hoax.

(11,093 posts)Mentioning all the "trigger" words (hate that phrase now) : size of bomb, payload, pressure cookers, etc.
If I read it 20 years ago, I'd ignore it. Now, however, in this political climate, we can't afford to. Despite the childishness, it could be true. This is probably what the definition of terrorism is.... not restricted to when you specifically kill people, but now just the threat.

(9,893 posts)but what self-respecting school boy in this day and age needs a jihadist by his side to pull off a successful massacre. Hell, Adam Lanza did it and he never left the house.
To me the big give away is that he punches two hot buttons, the "Muslim" button and the "social outcast" button, when one would have sufficed if either were the case. That and the teen age grandiosity.

(7,234 posts)Every time these threats come in you've gotta shut down the schools, lock down the city, stay indoors and stay tuned to your local news station for updates from Authorities.
I'd rather a few be inconvenienced and be wrong than do nothing and lose people.

I'm also glad I wasn't involved in that decision. If it was real, heads would have rolled had they not taken precaution and it was credible. Also lawsuits and 24/7 cable news Monday Morning Quarterbacks gifted with a Breaking News Item.

I do have to give a shout out to the way Tweetie confronted Trump after the debate. He is the only one with enough balls to do it.

(1,033 posts)I'm proud that folks get the courage to leave their house in the morning, although I'd hate to live a life dominated by fear 24/7.
I wonder if the kids who were kept home from school suddenly became much more likely to be killed by a handgun in the house, accidently discharged, than they would ever be threatened by a terrorist bomb.
I hope the kids staying home didn't keep their parents from tuning into cable news all day as they trembled in fear.
In summary - cowards.

Even the tools who follow isis know this from their training. Those are anti-personnel devices.
So, this thing, plus all the naming of specific weaponry virtually assures it's a fake.
They closed a whole school district over this?

(37,748 posts)It's a tough decision to make. I can't pretend to know what I'd do given that scenario. Either choice results in vapid criticism from the media and ineffectual half-wits pretending to posses absolute knowledge of what the Righteous Choice actually is.
