GOP Debate 2015: Military Experience Of Republican Presidential Candidates Raises Questions Among Veterans And Advocate Groups
During a time when the U.S. is facing growing threats from the Islamic State group and renewed Russian aggression, among other military-related issues, does the president of the United States need to have military experience? And will the clear lack of it among Republican hopefuls be a factor?

(51,076 posts)my experience with that issue that is.
It had a profound effect on me, one that totally changed my life and not for the better bur rather for the burden I carry on my shoulders for not doing more than I did to stop it once I got home. I did as much as I felt I could but looking back I realize I could have done more.
I went as a kid, came home as a troubled man.

Being a vet doesn't preclude one from being a war monger

(3,557 posts)I wouldn't put him in the same category of a combat vet like a guy who was an infantryman.
He dropped bombs from high in the air and spent time as a POW. He never had to actually see the impact his weapons have on men, women, and children like an infantryman does when they assess the dead and wounded after a firefight.
His service probably left him with a sense of pride while my service (as an infantryman) left me troubled and shamed.

More worrying is their utter lack of experience and knowledge behind all the tough tak.
