Mom Alters Tattoo to Support Transgender Son’s True Identity.

Ten years ago, Steve Peace, a tattoo artist, and his wife, Lindsey, decided to pay tribute to their three children with tattoos. Each featured a portrait of their kids — Ace, Hamish, and Eliot.

Like most tattoos, the jobs were fairly simple. Ace’s, however, required a little more work.

Originally, the tattoo depicted Ace in pigtails, wearing a pink dress with a purple bow. The tattoo was completed before Ace, now 15, came out as a transgender teen. “I felt kind of different from everyone else,” Ace told Metro News. “I just didn’t get it, like what exactly was different about me. I just thought I was weird, but nothing that put me out of place or anything.”

Ace came out to his parents last New Year’s, and they have supported him since.

“We weren’t surprised,” Steve told Metro News. “As parents, you say, ‘Whatever makes you happy,’ and we’ve seen him become happier and happier as time goes on, which makes us happy.”
