178. Let's see how many people actually tune in on Saturday to listen to the talk.
Wed Dec 16, 2015, 04:57 AM
Dec 2015

Anyone who asserts that this debate schedule isn't a little bit weird, if one actually wanted people to watch, tune in, learn, and become informed, is either not paying attention or would have to be accused of being at the very least obtuse.

To any regular person, this has to be seen as a rigged process, for certain reasons that are not clear but do not seem to be for the good of informing the people of this country who is running.

And then, the only real reason that no changes to the schedule can or have been considered is because Debbie Wasserman Schultz has made up her mind, and that is that. Now if that isn't a sick way to run a Party when substantial number of members are complaining about the process, I don't know what is.

I know that this debate schedule will have consequences, and they won't be pretty for the Democratic Party.

If the Democratic Party wants to run itself as corruptly as the rest of what many of us rail against, they are really playing with fire.

They should remedy the situation by reaching out to the candidates that want more debates and by trying to come up with a reasonable schedule ASAP. Otherwise, they are simply counting on people having nowhere else to go. What a pathetic excuse for a way to lead, to show you are the best, to govern, to run a political party or a country.

Wed Dec 16, 2015, 05:14 AM
Dec 2015

you have yourself to blame. And no one else.

Do you want someone to come to your home with a spoon and feed you, as well?

Every single debate is available, even today, on the internet. Two or three clicks and you're there.

Do you seriously watch your favorite TV shows as "the networks" dole them out? You never watch television "ON DEMAND?" You never watch a program on a tablet, a phone, a computer? Every show I LIKE seems to be aired on Sunday night--if I didn't use ON DEMAND I wouldn't watch any good TV.

You don't have to watch your debates "live" either.

There is NO excuse--in this 21st Century--for missing a debate. If you have time to complain on DU, you have time to find every single debate and watch--if you really care.

Each Democratic candidate gets way, WAY more time than even the most popular GOP candidate. Since Chaffee and Webb (and Lessig Who Never Showed Up Anyway) dropped out, there's even MORE time for the top tier.

We won't see any scrabbling and screaming by the Democratic candidates like we did with the GOP this evening. Why? Because--aside from the fact that they are more mature-- they'll have enough time to cover all the major issues, and even have time left over for less pressing matters.

That said, Saturday is GREAT for me--there's nothing good on, on Saturday, anyway.

I'm not advocating for more debates so that I get to see the candidates more and more, although that is revealing.

I'm advocating for fair process, for process that is perceived as fair by relevant parties, which includes the vast numbers of DNC members who are complaining about how this is being run, plus anyone else disillusioned by either the impropriety or the appearance of impropriety.

I realize you're something of a big deal around here, but I find your comments to me to be insulting and unnecessary.

Yes, I will watch the debate. I am complaining about the process. I think it stinks, and I think it can't do anyone any good, including Hillary.

"insulting" you.

People who are adults are responsible for educating themselves on current events. Should we have readers read the paper to everyone of voting age, so they are abreast of the issues?

Never have I heard it suggested that people be coddled in terms of obtaining information that is so READILY available nowadays, it's embarrassing.

Back in the day, if you had to work during a debate, you had to work. You could maybe sneak a transistor radio and an earpiece into your job, and hope you had good reception, or even put it on the office radio if your boss was "cool," but if neither of those options were viable, you picked up the New York Times and (horrors!) you READ about it afterwards, and talked to friends and family about how this one or that one came off.

If you lived overseas--as I did, often--all your news came via the written word, pretty much. European, Asian and Middle Eastern TV didn't cover the US elections with much thoroughness. If you wanted to be informed, you had to do the work. Nowadays, "the work" is opening up a screen and clicking a few times.

The process--thanks to "the internet"-- is better now than it has EVER been in the history of American elections. There's just no excuse for not being informed. Even poverty is not a barrier if you have a library within a walk or a bus ride of your home, or a smart phone. There are already several dozen copies of tonight's debate up on Youtube, without even having to navigate over to CNN.

OK, so you still haven't commented on the funky process concocted by the DNC!

I mean, c'mon, this has been a major complaint for months, and all I hear from people who don't have the complaint is "get over it", "the debates are fine", etc.

They are clearly not fine for a whole lot of people. Oh right, I also hear that "those people don't count for that much", "there aren't that many of them", "it won't matter in the general election".

It certainly will matter.

How do I know? I have been a Democrat since 1970, and voted in every election since. I was a proud Democrat in Massachusetts when we were the only state to go for McGovern.

And yet, due to the unbalance and unhinged and power-hungry way the DNC is running these debates and other things, I am tempted to do what is in such disrepute around here - not support Hillary if she becomes the candidate. I know that is sacrilege, and strategically kind of stupid, and I'm sure I will support whatever nominee emerges in the end, but people are largely ruled in the end by feelings and my feelings are both hurt and angry, and I am appalled at the apparent corruption inside my own party. How are people supposed to voice their concerns, their outrage, their dissatisfaction. Beside the feeling of being sold out by Democrats for years, even decades now (which can be validated by clear statistical results, these debates are simply not conceived to bring the highest exposure to our candidates, to capitalize on essentially free press, or to make sure everyone knows exactly where these candidates stand before they cast their crucial primary votes.

Party unity and even party excitement is a good thing, and I believe we should all be working in a shared system where the needs and wants of all the members of the party are met as well as possible. Not met with DWS "my way or the highway", and no other particularly legitimate reason.

i would urge any Hillary supporter of any kind, with clout or not, to use all their influence to call for the debates that will ensure that she is the firmly accepted victor, should that happen. Not the winner of a spoiled and failed process, with disgruntled losers in the wings.

Party unity. That's where we all should probably be heading right now.

Thanks for take the time to discuss.

And it AIN'T what's being reported, either.

I've heard a rumor of a paramour who's been pushed to the side, but not that woman who used to work for him.

The way to keep that kind of stink off you is to have your pals accuse someone else of doing it. That way, if anything comes out, you can chalk the whole mess up to "interfering outsiders, spreading terrible lies" -- like what happened to McCain in SC.

What I'm trying to say is that Jeb has a problem too, that has NOT broken at all...yet. There was a tale about a former employee (or two) with him, but this particular sister was not an employee and she was an unlikely paramour--"some people say." Or so the rumor goes!

I've heard it a couple of times and can't speak to authenticity, but it's weird when you hear the same strange rumor more than once from people who do not know each other at all. That's some interesting scuttlebutt!!

190. It is Rubio, as
Wed Dec 16, 2015, 01:20 PM
Dec 2015

others here have stated.

Two debates ago, Rubio spanked Jeb. The Bush machine felt that Marco betrayed the family, as the Bushites have assisted him in advancing his political career. While the rumors of Rubio being involved in numerous "affairs" have been common place in Florida for several years, they have been spread by democrats.

Now, in retribution for "betraying" the Bush family, the very people who have previously assisted Rubio in covering up his behaviors, are preparing to expose him. What a large part of their focus will be is not only has he betrayed his wedding vows, but he has lied about it. Over and over.

Hence, while the "rumors" haven't been widely reported -- not even close -- up to now, the Bush machine is prepared to promote it. I had expected it soon .....before the holiday break, as images created before X-mas tend to become entrenched by New Year's Day, and stick through January. But, it could be that they'll wait until January, when the next round of the campaign battle heats up.

It was interesting to note that Marco and Jeb pretended to be totally unaware that the other was on stage last night.

192. Interesting. While the "blind item" site I saw it on looks trashy- it is usually pretty accurate
Wed Dec 16, 2015, 03:42 PM
Dec 2015

and when there is a big consensus (commenters guess who the item is about) as they were for Rubio, they are also usually correct.
Mostly it covers entertainment rumors and they have a lot of big PR contacts helping- so I wonder if that means this will be huge and dirty. Is Rubio the biggest "Christian family values" candidate? Hope it unmasks him in that case.
