The hate and bigotry was the fuel; it's always around. The Repugs and baggers sat it on fire and it's now out of control.

They must be called on this

They said they would do this and they did. Ironically it is the only thing they have been successful at in years!

Having Obama in the WH flushed out all the ugliness and racism that has been there all along underneath. Have been thinking that the silver lining is that now that it's out in the open—the part of white America that's been in denial can finally see it.

That is what divided the country.

It was a natural extension of Karl Rove's 51 % strategy: Polarize the country so that you win but win by a small margin. It was deemed more certain to win if you solidified a 51 % bloc than if you gambled to gain a shakier larger bloc.

Republicans have been polarizing the country ever since Nixon's Southern strategy more than 40 years ago.

. . .on the night of Obama's inauguration, a group of around 15 Republican Representatives and Senators met in the Caucus Room, a "high-end D.C. establishment", to discuss methods to "win back political power" and to "put the brakes on Obama's legislative platform".

They vowed to obstruct virtually everything Obama did or tried to do. No matter what it was or if they'd supported it before and no matter how badly it harmed the country or anyone in the country.
