"You're going to be the best educated barrista at Starbucks."

This talk on everything from how higher education is a public enterprise which has been turned private, to the importance of Portugal's recent election. He drops a bombshell with respect to the Corinthian school bankruptcy, and how if extrapolated out to the housing market, would actually cause havoc. 20 people own more than half of all Americans.

If you want to know the truth about the economic situation we're in, (not just the sanitized Krugman/Reich versions) then watch at least the second half of this really quite important talk.

edit: who am I to say whether it's important or not? Maybe he's nuts. I read my own post and it sounded a bit too certain. I don't know what's going to work to make the world less violent and more productive. We've gone to the moon, and put a car up there, but we don't put the same effort into fixing social and fiscal problems down here. There's no money in having clean air, so the problem has to be solved from a more democratic level. Probably things people do on an individual level, like just being kind and patient. It seems to me the reason most of us are even on this forum is to figure out how to create a system that provides a good life for its citizens.

That would lower the possibility of working at Starbucks. Look at trends in future job outlooks.

in their major.

I also know plenty of people who picked "bad" majors at expensive schools who make a shitload of money now.

It is nowhere near as direct a path as you imply.

If the education is part of a financial transaction, no one's looking out for your wellbeing but you.
