Santa Signs To Little Girl Who Could Not Hear Him

Source: Reshareworthy

Santa was talking to a child at the Cleveland Centre Middlesbrough shopping centre when he noticed she couldn’t hear him. The little girl’s mother tells him “she can’t talk very well”. He asks if she can sign and that’s when the two share an adorable conversation just between the two of them!

Transcription:

Santa: Santa wants to know did you write to ask for a baby doll?
Child: Yes, I want a baby doll too.
Santa: You want it too? Do you want a video game too?
Child: No. You are able to use sign language?
Santa: Do you want a bicycle?
Child: No, I don’t want to fall.
Santa: I’m nice. Santa is nice.

I wonder how Santa came to be fluent in sign, at least he looks pretty fluent to me.

I found out from a deaf person who's very fluent in British Sign language that the coservation is in BSL (British Sign Language - not American Sign Language.)

The only sign I could make out (everything was a blur) was baby. Or rather that was the ASL sign for baby but the BSL sign for doll.

ASL and BSL are two totally different sign languages. BSL is NOT the mother language of ASL. They don't even use the same manual alphabet. It seems counterinitive that these two languages are not related to each other at all. It has to do with how ASL developed in the USA.

See BSL Alphabet:

See ASL Alphabet:

See Wiki for deaf history: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deaf_history

For the record, I broke my glasses the other day when I ran over them with my power chair (I'm both deaf and wheelchair bound. The two are not related.) so now everything is a blur. I'm waiting for my new glasses to come in mail.

Sorry to write a novel but I thought a small correction was needed.
