documentary on HBO about the murder of Jordan Davis?
I watched it yesterday and it's appalling.
Michael Dunn is a liar, a murderer and (not a shocker) a RACIST.
On the stand, he claimed several times that he told his fiancé the boys pointed a gun at him.
Turns out, she was the key witness for the prosecution as she testified not once did he say that to her, but only because the prosecution could have charged her as an accessory because she demanded to go home rather than go to the police when she watched it on the news in their hotel room the next day.
They play their phone conversations from jail where he calls himself the victim, he did nothing wrong, there is an entire subculture which maybe he could shed the light on as 'he doesn't tell them to pull up their pants' and believes he did nothing wrong.
Highly recommend it. Here's some info on it: 3 1/2 Minutes, 10 Bullets
The documentary is remarkable. You can watch it Monday on HBO at 9 p.m. EST. It follows Jordan's family throughout Dunn's entire trial, so you'll get to witness the emotional ordeal from their perspectives. I won't spoil it for you, but there are a few things I learned about the trial during the Q&A session that Davis and McBath conducted after the New York City screening. Stuff that's not in the film.
You'll see that Dunn's fiancee, Rhonda Rouer, a white woman, testified during the trial. Rouer was actually a key witness for the prosecutor. During her testimony, she opened up about what happened during her and Dunn's car ride back to a hotel after he had just shot up a car filled with human beings. (Rouer heard the gunshots while she was in the gas station convenience store, and knew Dunn had been involved.)
She testified that Dunn never, ever told her that he saw Jordan or any one of his friends pick up or wield a gun, or anything resembling a gun. (That was Dunn's bulls--t excuse for shooting at the car: that he thought he saw Jordan or one of his friends reaching for a gun.)
But don't be too quick to call Rouer a hero, McBath warned during the Q&A session. It turns out that prosecutors threatened to indict her as an accessory to murder. Why? Well, when Rouer saw the shooting on the local news later that night or the next morning, and saw that someone had died, instead of encouraging Dunn to turn himself in, or to go back to the scene, she asked Dunn to take her home.

(54,770 posts)and say to keep you ass out of jail when you pull your concealed carry weapon and mess up and shoot someone on the street.
I'll definitely watch the Dunn documentary. Too many gunners are just Michael Dunn or Zman waiting to happen.
Thanks.

(5,909 posts)I watched Bill Maher several months ago (I believe it was after Michael Brown was murdered) and posted about his interview with Richard Balko who had written a book on the current militarization of police.
He said that police were now being taught classes such as "how to justify force after you have used it" which to me are instructions on "what to do after you murder someone and not be charged".

Please do watch it. I was glued to the television; the phone calls were disgusting but very revealing. No remorse at all.
You're welcome.

(5,909 posts)I can't believe he wasn't charged with perjury, unless he was and I missed it.
He blatantly lied about several things. Disgusting.

(36,392 posts)I know what you mean, but "let's wait for some more facts" does not equate with "defending Dunn".

(3,163 posts)This one seemed obvious from the beginning though, mainly because Dunn left the scene and didn't contact police. That's not how most people defending themselves would react, they would want to get on record immediately.

If I was a star member I could pinpoint even more blatant stuff...

(36,392 posts)whites can pretty much shoot blacks with impunity down here. That's the real purpose of Stand Your Ground.
So I do think some caution is warranted.
