Time to reclaim the name of our party (Democrat-IC).

They tell us all the time that words matter.
Republicans yell "Why won't the President call them 'radical Muslim terrorist?'"

Well, won't you call it the Democratic Party?
What gave you the right to change our party name?
When GOP pollster/strategist Frank Luntz came up with this idea, I thought it would never catch on.
I thought that surely the mainstream media or, at least, Dems would demand it.
But, nope, almost every elected Republucan now does it.
I'm not sure about you but my skin crawls everytime I hear "Democrat Party".

What if it was your own name?
What if your name was Debbie and your neighbor always called you Deb.
So, you correct them and tell them that your name is Debbie.
And, they laugh and say..."I like Deb better so I'm going to call you that".
You would either say or think WTF, right?

I know this is not the most important thing in the world.
And, Luntz counted on that. He said that in his polling that he found that the word "democratic" has a more positive response than the word "democrat".
So, he got the talk radio guys using democrat party and then he advised GOP members of Congress to use it.

So, again why fight to reclaim it?
Why waste time on this?
Because, it's our damn name, damn it!
And, we can walk and chew gum at the same time very easily on this subject.

And, here's how we get it back.
We start calling them the "Republic Party".
They will howl and so will their fawning right wing media.
"The Democrat Party can't just shorten the Republican Party name"
Oh, really, we say.
You did.
Very quickly the Democrat Party garbage would stop. Throw it back in their face.

I am a Democrat and a proud member of the DemocratIC Party.

This argument is grammar school level taunting, nothing more.
What we need to do instead is work to get them out of office. Ungerrymand the Red states. Get rig of their hackable touch screen electronic voting machines. Forced public recounts when the exit polling differs from the actual count by more than a few percent.
Enforce conflict of interest laws, such as having the person in charge of a states voting compliance, also be the political party head (Kansas, Ohio, etc).
That is how to deal with their childishness.

We can do all of those things.
We can also get our name back.
It may not matter to you, that's fine.
That's what Frank Luntz said.
He said that Democrats won't want to appear like they are fighting something so trivial.

My point is that doing this and those things you mention are not mutually exclusive.
I bet if polling was done on this subject that I would be right.
I bet that a good portion if not a majority of Americans think that the two party names are The Republican Party and the Democrat Party.
Frank Lintz was right.
He changed our name and very few of us Democrats care.

DemonCrats, they do.. they don't care. We call them pukes, or Repukes...its all childish, but Americans do a lot of silly stuff. Whats important is what we do.. by standing behind democratic ideals, and try and make life better for everyone.

I am very new to the site and did a search for this topic. I know it is 'off topic' for the current events but to me it is symptomatic of how the the TV media have wimped out in even the appearance of fairness to both sides. I have watched all the MSNBC hosts let Republicans get away with talking about the "Democrat Party" for years now. The only host I ever saw call it out, once, was Lawrence O'Donnell. It was over a year ago and he interrupted a Repub and told him that the proper name was Democratic Party.
I don't know why the token Democrat on these shows do not ever call it out either. And CNN, of course, allows it all the time.

Back to current events. I have been dismayed that CNN and some MSNBC hosts (day/evening) have been saying that Hillary is "still lying" about the emails.
To me, this is all part of the media goal of keeping a fight going where none should exist.
As noted, I am new to this but think that such a large group as this could have some impact on forcing the TV media to at least insure that the correct name of our party is used. And yes, words do matter. We look weak, letting it go by.

But whenever I bring this up, I'm usually told it's not that big a deal.

But, say your name was Christopher.
You had always been called Christopher.
But, suddenlty people started calling you Christof.
Would you just go along with having Your name changed by Others?

Gop pollster, focus group leader, and wordsmith Frank Luntz started this so that our party would no longer be associated with the positive impression that the word democratic leaves with the public.
Along with a compliant media, Luntz got what he wanted by shortening our name.
And we never fought back. Sigh!
