the fact that there is a war on women and an effort to control our bodies. This must be faced head on.

I love President Obama but I agree his emphasis was in the wrong place here.

This is women's rights under deadly attack. No doubt about it.

pretty straightforward, he said he was going to push for gun control and use events like sandy hook to try to shift the national dialog. many particular shootings will also have at least some other angle, be it racism or anti-semitism or xenophobia or, in this case, misogyny.

obama pushed the gun control angle because that was his plan prior to this particular shooting.

being a politician, he has to pick his battles and simplify his message, so he stuck with the gun control angle.

in the long run, if he's successful in getting meaningful, sensible gun control enacted (not that i see this happening any time soon), this will help many potential victims of gun violence, including women.

The last thing we need is for anti-choicers to feel angirer and more emboldened. That is exactly what would happen if Obama had talked about rooting out their hateful actors.

I think his comment may also have been directed towards the recent events in Minneapolis. We live in a country where ordinary people feel justified and secure shooting other people. An disgustingly large portion of the population now has to be convinced that it is a problem that people have no qualms about shooting political adversaries or people they just don't like. It is poisonous and unless the common denominator is addressed, we won't get very far with any of these causes where violence has been enacted or threatened.

Blaming gunz doesn't require very much thought, effort, or creativity. Just demonize guns, gun owners, pass another token gun control law (like an ammo limit, waiting period increase, etc), tben everyone gets a pat on the back and a "attaboy, job well done", until next time, then rinse, lather, repeat.

Than to deal with the issues of domestic terrorism.

Problem is, Abortion is the same political poison to the right, as gun control is to the left. Been proven time and time again. All this gun control talk is going to come back to haunt us on election day..
