I'm so embarrassed and humiliated to live in Colorado

We have seen more than our share of gun violence and I really can't stand it any more Though we are a purple state and I am proud we voted to have recreational marijuana, we still seem to be the place that gun nuts find magnetic. Our governor even stated we would welcome Syrian refugees. Yet, it is all overshadowed by those willing to kill innocent people I don't know what else to do but move, which I'm doing for financial reasons as well, but I'm glad to be leaving because I'm tired of living in the state that attracts so many loonies.

I'm so sorry

Very blue state, but we had 4 lunatics arrested recently. Because for some reason protesters were infringing on something something and we can't have people asking the government to stop killing them.

It's a former gun control advocate from New York who's stirring up the crazies and planting dangerous ideas in their heads. It's a former feminist glass-ceiling-buster born in the liberal city of Austin who's planting lies about Planned Parenthood who's motivating desperate scared people from all over the country to have violent thoughts. They're both cynically manipulating peoples' fears and paranoias in order to gain political power. It's disgusting and they're getting people killed. That's the face of evil behind these tragedies, not the ordinary people & historical culture of one square state that's triggering these murders. Don't feel shame. Feel anger. Get out, speak out, organize, and fight like hell to keep our country out of the hands of lying would-be fascists.

When I came home from the war I was 100% against that war and made friends who were like minded. Of course that meant we didn't like gunZ and weren't going to have anything to do with them then after about 15 years my old friend turned on me and became a gun nut. The sunday after the oklahoma city bombing he came over to show me his newest gun and I said sorry paul but I don't really care about seeing your gun and he started talking shit that everyone felt like he did, concerning gunz and I lost it and lost my friend at the same time. I no longer wish that things would have evolved differently because I took it pretty hard for a while there.

I'm a man of my convictions no matter where it might lead me. I'm open minded to a fault so that means I do see things differently as I learn and change due to that but just to be for one thing today and another tomorrow is not me.

When you get all down and out about living with so many like you say there just think about me and what I have to live with here in Oklahoma. Its not easy and if not for family I'd have left a long time ago. Then I'd a been up shit creek cause Colorado would have been where I'd have headed too. Well there or Oregon.

and we have been victimized by their ideology. But we have enough wonderful people in this state to fight them--to have turned this state purple- and continue to fight them, we will.

Having lived or worked for extended times in the Northeast, mid-Atlantic states, midwest and southeast, I can very well tell you that you won't escape the "loonies" by moving. In many areas they are even worse.

Give yourself some time to develop some perspective on this. I understand and share the horror, but I am not giving up my wonderful state.

and the representatives to US Congress were balanced.

After the 2010 disastrous midterms, the Repubs gerrymandered the state and
the last few years since 2012 when they completely took over state gov have
been disastrous. I am cautiously optimistic that McCrory will lose to Cooper
for the Gov race next year, but don't know if enough people will come out to vote
to change the balance in the State house.

The Repubs have commenced to thoroughly destroy what was unique about NC--
as opposed to other southern states--and they have been doing a terrific
job at fu*king the average person in NC. I do not understand what is wrong
with people that they will vote Repub. The latest disaster is that the Repub
controlled Board of Governors for the UNC University system has hired
a Rovian/Bush a$$kisser--Margaret Spellings--who was Bush's Ed Secretary
and currently runs his "Library" to be President of the UNC system. She's totally
unqualified for the job--but sucks up to all the right Repubs to destroy the UNC
system--which Art Pope has wanted for years.

If you are determined to come to NC--the best blue areas are Chapel Hill/Carrboro; Durham;
Asheville. Parts of Raleigh are ok; so are parts of Charlotte.

If I could convince my husband to leave, I think we'd be going out of the country, too. I
am not optimistic. I cannot believe how stupid and ignorant people are in this country.

I have lived in CO for over 30 years, and I fought
against this gun love for years. By now I have given
up on it, because I realized that a large part of the county's
population has a similar obsession.

The hate comes from the media as well as from the
repugs and some vile churches. If it would not reverberate with a lot of
people, it could be contained a lot better.

While I share your sadness, I can only do my small part
to counteract it.

Sun Nov 29, 2015, 01:03 AM
Nov 2015

67 years ago. I've lived other places, but have always come back. It ain't perfect, but it's home. The Springs area is, well, weird. Didn't used to be. Up north, where I am, they haven't allowed anybody but republicans on the county commission for over twenty years. We were at the forefront of that idiotic 51st state movement, championed by the commishes, especially the one who told a newspaper that "one-party rule" is the only way to govern (not that she could point to any beneficent examples in history to prove her point); she also defended secession because, as she repeatedly stated in a nationally broadcast interview, the constitution gives the right to "suck=seed" (that's how she pronounces it). We also gave the state Ken Buck. Ew. We are also home to Dudley Brown, who deliberately staged a gun rights rally across the street from the park where the victims of the Aurora shooting were being memorialized. Again, ew.

If you've seen a fracking map of the state, Weld County looks like a huge red rash with a shrinking open space (Greeley) in the center; that space is shrinking with fracking wells now allowed in city limits, adding to the 21thousand wells in the rest of the county. City council and county commission have become increasingly adept at ignoring citizens and health professionals when it comes to fracking. My own health has suffered, and my lung doctor has been pointedly dismissed when taking his concerns to public meetings.

So why do I stay? Because it's home. There's something in me that just demands that I stay and do my best in this fight, meager though my efforts might be. They keep trying to take it from those of us who love it, so there must be something of value here, right? I'll grant you, sometimes it's beyond frustrating. But it's also invigorating to grasp the small victories here and there -- like in the recent election wherein, for the first time in quite a while, we got a Democrat on the city council; she's young, Hispanic, and gay, and you can see their jaw muscles cramping when they have to smile and welcome her. Hah!

Last year the Greeley Tribune published an article about voter demographics here. Republicans hold 38%, the balance is split between Democrats and unaffiliated voters; the Trib's headline read "Republicans Dominate". I took umbrage at that, and created a purple bumper sticker that says "62%". When I'm asked about it I explain that 62% of our voters are NOT republican; I get snarled at, but I also get smiled at. I also made a sticker for a candidate who was running against a flag draped tea partier who sported a rhinestone cross on his Stetson; it was a rough ballot with our guy versus Elmer Gantry. Our guy won, not because of that sticker by any means, but it felt good to lob that message. We each do what we can.

Besides, I get to hang out with some of the best people in the whole state, and wouldn't you know they're Democrats!

Trust me, I wish Florida was capable of doing half the stuff you do, especially fund colleges. Yeah, I know you may have thought I was going to talk about the green stuff, which a majority of out state approved, but did not become law thanks to Jeb Bush making sure that it took 60 percent to get an amendment (i.e. only what the rich could buy.) Of course, we are still the gunshine state, as Columbine's Eric and Dylan proved when they got guns from Florida.

The fact is, the GOP is enabling loonies, and this is a cancer that goes from Christie's New Jersey to even parts of California (half of which would be a red state if it ever broke off from Sacramento.) Dp not feel bad, because this battle is Global. Even in Western Europe, the right is working to rise.

I just feel Colorado is so appealing to those on the fringes. Though they may come from S Carolina or California (the Aurora shooter), Colorado says "freedom" to many and I guess that means freedom to lock, load and shoot at random. I've lived here since right before Columbine and they just keep comin'. I realize no place is safe, but I may as well live where there also isn't much snow to shovel and I can easily get to the beach to replenish my soul on occasion. Plus, the cost of housing is out of control and I would just as soon someone who enjoys this atmosphere have my home. It no longer feels that way to me.
