Looks like the babysitter/kidnapper is going for the temporary insanity/snapped defense

History of suicide attempts. History of stealing. Tenant in her family's home said she'd leave every morning at 1:30 and return a couple hours later. Tenant says she miscarried a month earlier. And that she saw the clothing of other children she'd babysat for in the laundry.

Problem is the police caught her trying to sneak Lyndon's clothes tucked inside a bag out of the house en route to meet with a defense attorney. And she lied repeatedly to them, first about her whereabouts when they called to set up an interview, and later during the interview itself.

Oh, and along with the baseaball-sized contusion on her head and cigarette burns all over her body, Lyndon had road rash. Yeah, she must have thrown her out of the car...

The motives behind the disappearance and suffering of 2-year-old Hamilton girl remains unclear as the key suspect remains “basically mute” and has “no rational ability for her defense,” according to court psychologists.

Hanna, her mother, and her boyfriend ultimately left the Topsfield home to speak with an attorney around 3:30 p.m.

Before her departure, however, the affidavit states, “(She) attempted to take several bags from the house with her.”

Police examined the bags and discovered toddler clothing therein, including a dirty pink jacket “observed to have dirt and vegetative debris on it.”

The former babysitter accused of kidnapping and abusing a two-year-old Massachusetts girl last Friday was in the midst of a psychotic episode, a court psychologist testified.

At a Monday hearing, a court psychologist said Hanna had a history of suicide attempts and memory lapses and didn't seem to understand why she was in court. Hannah was experiencing "multiple psychotic symptoms," Dr. Tammy Howe testified.

The search warrant affidavits filed in the investigation said Hanna, 21, of Topsfield, gave state and local police several different stories about what she had done Friday.

Hanna allegedly had dirt under her fingernails and a twig in her hair.

"Ms. Hanna was acting erratic and told me that she had anxiety issues," the records said. "She would cry and then immediately stop. Abigail Hanna told us that she got dirty when she was trying to corral a stray cat, earlier in the morning, while running through the woods."

Later in the day, Hanna left with her mother and boyfriend to see defense attorney Susan McNeil. Hanna had bags in her hands, investigators said in the affidavits.
