(3,660 posts)Hopefully the police will not do what they did in Ferguson and go all militaristic on the protesters and provoke unrest. Chicago is a major city with a large command structure and hopefully this will prevent the police from getting into physical altercations with the protesters.

(60,010 posts)It is pretty clear what happened.
Charging the cop with Murder is an important step.
I still cannot figure out why the police feel so confident about murdering someone in plain sight as they have been doing.
Their attitude suggests they have no fear of repercussions ( well, at least until Ferguson and beyond).
Thank god for cell phone cameras and the internet.

(54,041 posts)He's already on the ground when his body twitches a couple of times... that might also be his body reacting to bullet shots after falling on the concrete ground. Completely horrific. I assume for this to be a murder 1 case, there's other evidence against the assailant besides the video

Remember, Chicago is corrupt from A to Z. Any police count for a lot more that black young men.

(3,183 posts)They charged the cop with involuntary manslaughter then the judge came back and said he should have been charged with a more serious crime.
I believe when they prosecute for first degree murder, they can consider finding the suspect guilty for less charges but not the other way around.
mopinko
(70,180 posts)(all the way) if that is the only charge. if there arent lesser includeds in there....

(3,194 posts)It's hard to tell, but I think they're standing around eating doughnuts. Somebody must have stopped at Dunkin' on the way.
They certainly don't appear to be too concerned with the road kill lying in the street. Just like in Ferguson.
Probably just making sure their stories match one another, wouldn't want one of their own to take the fall for killing this useless animal.

(17,865 posts)went into the Burger King to erase the security recordings. At least this is according to a district manager. It appears CPD investigated itself and found no tampering. I wonder if the IT wizards at Justice would have any better luck. It may be too late now of course.
SoCalMusicLover
(3,194 posts)Her answer during the press conference was so disjointed regarding this. Saying the Burger King was too far away to show anything....then saying they did see the video and there was no sign of tampering. But her tone was not very convincing.
Plus we all know that cops are good, and would never destroy evidence. They are all for truth and justice, even against one of their own. Yeah, that's the ticket.

(25,263 posts)If this video was released in a timely manner Rahm wouldn't be the Mayor of the City of Chicago today. This was already said in another thread here - and I agree.
It would be interesting to see if there was any suppression of this video by the Emmanual administration because of the election. Seems to me that an investigation should go in that direction to find out.
It's also interesting to note that the City of Chicago settled a civil lawsuit and awarded the family of the deceased $5 million. Only now we're seeing a criminal lawsuit of murder in the first degree. Did the city admit that this cop was guilty and try to sweep this under the rug with a settlement?

And look who is waiting in the wings....Hillary.....the 2016 version of Republican Lite.
It's not so hard to look like a liberal Democrat, when you compare to the clowns on the other side.
A true liberal on the other hand......like Bernie.....just label him a socialist and be done with it. Republican Lite is the best our party can do, face it. Carter & JFK were the last true liberals to win the White House.

(3,194 posts)Any investigation of suppression will go nowhere. I'm sure the E administration has already made sure to eliminate any evidence of that, and the lower level lemmings won't want to dare go after the Mayor's office. They'll simply say there was not enough evidence and be done with it.
Not only did the city settle, they did so BEFORE the family even filed a lawsuit. In other words, they wanted to head this off at the pass, before anyone realized how culpable they were.
They also were hoping that this would just go away, once the family was satisfied with their money, and maybe the video would not EVER see the light of day. Were it not for that judge ordering it's release, this may very well have happened.
global1
(25,263 posts)it they were successful at sweeping this under the rug - they would have left a murdering cop on the street to possibly do it again.

(13,081 posts)They had to pay lawyers, go to court, have hearings, and then let a judge decide whether anyone would ever see the tape.
A video which was filmed on taxpayer-funded equipment of a taxpayer-employed guy doing his taxpayer-funded job (poorly).
This thing is insulting on so many levels. I have trouble comprehending the sheer NERVE of these people, especially after hearing about the department's ridiculous explanations. "We found no evidence that the police officers erased the tape" and all of the many, many other cover ups.
