When Russia was trying that BS a while back with our airspace on the west coast I have no doubt it was a pissing contest. It just so happens this time they lost.

Turkey is just pissed off that Russia is fighting a faction of insurgents (i.e. terrorists) that Turkey supports. Turkey violates the airspace of other countries constantly, it's not an uncommon event on the international stage. For a country to fire on these planes when they aren't at war is far outside normal protocols. Oh well, I guess we can all be smug and dance for joy that two Russian pilots that were fighting our enemies were murdered in cold blood as they parachuted to the ground.
