Why I知 Taking the Most Important People in my Life to Paris

https://www.yahoo.com/travel/why-im-taking-the-most-important-people-in-my-042512310.html

In less than a week I’m taking all of the employees of my company and my new wife to Paris. I would be lying if I didn’t say I had a moment’s pause following the horrific attacks on the city....

That last one was from my wife, who I promise you isn’t afraid of anything. She drove straight into the heart of Jerusalem just a week after the recent attacks over there. The fact that she was rattled by this trip forced me to give it even more thought. Was it responsible for me to take the most important people in my life to a very clear terrorist target?...

The reason for our trip is not mere tourism. We are headed to Paris to participate in the long awaited UN Conference on Climate Change, known as COP21. It’s probably the most important conference ever on climate change and will bring together 100s of organizations, companies and heads of state—including President Obama. They are all planning to attend, despite recent events and we are too, with an even greater sense of personal urgency.

In a nutshell, the entire mission of my company, TriplePundit.com, is to promote the “triple bottom line"—the idea that social, environmental and economic issues are connected and dependent on one another. Climate change may seem like a distant threat compared to ISIS, but it is very much intertwined with the very same social problems that give rise to international conflict and even terrorism. In fact, climate change, compounded by population pressure, is already among the single biggest destabilizing forces in the world today. Failing to address it will almost certainly lead to more social unrest, more angry, desperate people, and more terrorism.
