It's a 3x5 meter pod that can house two people. There is a 750 watt wind turbine and solar panels, while it can also be plugged into any electric car.
It collects rainwater, filtering it and storing it in a tank below the pod. Inside is a toilet, shower, mini-kitchen, bed, table and storage space.

One of the captions says: "The amazing micro-dwelling was designed especially for those who are required to stay in the nature for long stretches of time, such as scientists, photographers, rangers or "extreme" tourists."
So the pod is not intended as a permanent living unit, just for temporary stays.
ETA: Photo 17 of the slideshow is a diagram of the interior.

(57,936 posts)Seriously, the technology is great. Just wait. They will make a trailer or RV version of it, and you will see those stopped in all kinds of interesting places across the US once seniors catch on to it. Very smart. Beats the tent we lived in for months at a time (summers) when we were young and traveling.

(34,136 posts)And can be put on wheels to tow - that's part of the pics in the link I gave.
It reminds me of some of the small travel trailers that used to be around before RVs got popular - a lot smarter travel option than a RV since the trailer can be parked and the towing vehicle can go places where parking with big things is a problem.
My great uncle had one similar to the green & white one on this page: http://velcrostrip.com/ He lived in Buffalo, New York, but was a NFL official and towed his travel trailer to the games. One year when he was an official for some big football game in Tampa he parked his travel trailer in the field behind our house and his wife visited with us while he went off to the game.

(101,321 posts)You need a separate trailer to put it on. And you'll have to keep it on the trailer, or use a crane to get it on and off, at about a ton and a half.

THAT would be max cool.
I lived on an off the grid[/], solar powered Houseboat for several years on the Mississippi
River. We even collected rainwater for drinking and showering.
Can more modules be added easily?
We are limited only by our imaginations.

(50,560 posts)The dimensions are crucial - it would let them put eight of them on a flatbed trailer without having to tag the truck as an "oversize vehicle." Imagine if FEMA had 5000 trailers full of these. They could haul these things into an area, set them up and have emergency shelters within hours of a storm.
