I'll have a Bloody Mary around 1 pm and with the turkey and fixings served at 2 p.m. I'll probably have a glass of Prosecco or champagne. Maybe a second if I am eating a lot. Then coffee with dessert.

(20,875 posts)I don't live in Calistoga. I used to live south of there though and I used to take trips there quite often being it is so nice!
As for the water, nothing is like Calistoga water IMO. They had it at the store yesterday and I picked up two six-packs of it ($5.79 a six pack in glass bottles nonetheless!). I can remember the days when it used to be less than $2.00 a six pack.
My how times they are a changing eh?
Where I now live we are on ground water. Even with the drought, the reservoirs are quite full I was told which is good news. It sure rained cats and dogs around here last night! I mean like woah, the streets are as slick as ice out there.

(11,843 posts)At least in my Scandahoovian family, black coffee is just coffee, no sugar, no cream, no nothing. And one learned to drink bitter Lutheran church basement coffee because the little old church circle ladies wouldn't use enough coffee, letting the hot water extract all the bitter oils that came off last. They kept cutting down because it was "too strong."
Where do people drink black unsweetened coffee? I'm assuming it's a regional appellation.
SamKnause
(13,108 posts)I do not know if it is regional.
Black coffee with sugar.
Black coffee without sugar or sweeteners.
Have a wonderful evening and a safe and happy Thanksgiving.

(11,843 posts)On the way to Florida for spring break, we stopped for dinner in Georgia. My dinner came with a salad and the woman serving us, when I said that I didn't want any dressing (I didn't care for it at the time) said "You gonna eat that dry, Honey?" Sadly for my waistline, I learned to like salad dressings.
Have a good Thanksgiving.

(13,108 posts)If someone is talking and the person did not hear what the person was saying,
instead of saying excuse me I didn't hear you, or could you repeat that, they say please.
I lived in Florida for 10 years.
I said please when I did not hear what a checkout lady was saying to me.
She looked at me and said you are from Cincinnati, Ohio.
She stated she had never heard anyone except people from Cincinnati, Ohio use
the word please in that context.
I asked my new friends if they wanted a pop, and they didn't know what I was talking about.
They call it soda down south.

Kidding...
Probably vodka and juice while I help out in the kitchen/watch football. Then more booze to kill time since my wife has yet to pull a turkey out of the oven when its supposed to be done. I need to watch the alcohol intake though... nothing worse than filling up on it and then only eating a tiny portion of the food when its warm out of the oven, only to get hungry later and scarf down a bunch of half cold turkey and mash potatoes
CTyankee
(63,912 posts)husband thinks done is dry white meat. I have yet to convince him that the tradition up in NE is that done here isn't "raw" as he claims it is...
GummyBearz
(2,931 posts)I just more or less want it to be done when I was told it would be. Last year it was literally in for 2 hours longer because some thermometer was about 3 degrees lower than what it was supposed to be, but she wouldn't turn up the oven temp higher to get those last 3 degrees.... 1 hour later she finally turned it up, another hour later the thermometer went up 3 degrees.
All because numbers on a thermometer and numbers on an oven setting weren't perfectly agreeing with each other :|

(78,249 posts)A shortage of the Italian bubbly could occur as a result of high demand and rainy weather, according to Roberto Cremonese, the export manager of the popular prosecco manufacturer Bisol.
"Last year's harvest was very poor, and down by up to 50% in some parts, so there is a very real possibility of a global shortage," Cremonese said in an interview with the trade publication The Drinks Business.
The ares hardest hit, according to the publication, is Prosecco DOC, which is made up of territories and provinces in northeast Italy. DOC stands for "Controlled Designation of Origin" and means the prosecco is produced within a set of guidelines in a specific region. The area received a lot of rain in the last year, according to Cremonese.

Unfortunately Paris Hilton, as well as Jenna and Not-Jenna were seen publicly swilling it, and the price shot waaay up. We switched to prosecco (sometimes too sweet) and cava (more like what we were used too).
Luckily for our family tradition, Veuve Clicquot has dropped down to $32 down here.
