Yes, we really are in danger.

Speaking to MSNBC on Saturday morning, Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings was asked to discuss the growing anxiety over Syrian refugees entering the United States, purportedly over concerns they could be potential agents for militant groups such as ISIS. Rawlings staunchly rejected the assertion that Syrians are somehow uniquely prone to violence, saying he is more concerned with the rise of white supremacy and the recent flurry of mass shootings committed by white men.

“I am more fearful of large gatherings of white men that come into schools, theaters and shoot people up, but we don’t isolate young white men on this issue,” Rawlings said.

1 in 13 people killed by guns are killed by police

America's law enforcement officers have shot and killed upwards of 385 people so far this year, according to a new Washington Post investigation. That's a rate of about 1 every 9 hours, or 2.5 shootings per day. That's a lot compared to other countries -- cops in Germany killed only 8 people in 2013-2014, for instance. British police didn't kill anyone last year.

Through June 1, there have been 5,099 gun deaths in the U.S., according to up-to-date numbers maintained by the Gun Violence Archive. Based on the 385 figure, that means that American police are responsible for about 1 in every 13 non-suicide gun deaths in the country, or 8 percent.

As much as I am in favor of gun control, I think it behooves us all to consider the following:

Does anyone want to see an America where only the right-wingers own guns?

I don't own a gun, myself. Being a relative pacifist, I do not envision a future in which I would ever purchase one. Assuming the majority of Democrats feel similarly, what is honestly to stop the "right" from committing treason on a massive scale other than their own stupidity and inability to cooperate?

Ever hear the song by the Charlie Daniels Band, about how the South is going to rise again? There are millions down there who still believe that crap.

All the more reason why we need a federal solution to the gun crisis of this country. And SOON, before they realize the only thing they have in abundance, which we generally lack, are MUNITIONS!

to get all skeered and worried and anxious and 9 times out of 10 this is without an actual threat or "chatter" about an attack. Meanwhile at any time some gun humper with a grudge can shoot up a church, a theater, a mall, a school, a workplace. This can happen any day of the week anywhere in America.

Corpus Christi population as of 2013 = 316,381

Americans killed by guns 2004 - 2013 = 316,545

That's a whole city's worth of gun deaths in the US.

and you have to believe that there are ways to keep guns out of the hands of suicidal people. Perhaps a database where mental health care professionals can report patients that are a danger to themselves or others.

I'm talking about street reprisal warfare, police killings, etc.

But you're not wrong, a good chunk of the not 1/3rd are also murder suicides, which fall under mental health, I'm just saying.

I think there needs to be a mental health registry for gun ownership (I'm not saying have everyone evaluated, I'm saying everyone who's been evaluated needs to raise a red flag somewhere; you don't get to the evaluation stage unless you have done some non-gun related shit, but if you get there, you can still buy a gun; make it so it's harder to buy a gun if red flags are raised).
