My ex-Brother-n Law designed the facility to produce them. He is a Syrian Refugee since 1967. He was studying Mechanical Engineering here in the States and the June War Happened. He refused to fight.
I think of Nabih every time I have one. He's one of the nicest people you would ever want to meet.

Apparently, a stroll around the camps will tell you that most of the people who have fled are educated, the men being architects and engineers and doctors and the like. They're the ones who had the money and items to trade to get them far away. Many of them want to come to the UK or US because they already speak English. These are not the dregs of humanity and they're not no-hoper 20 something who are easy prey for ISIL recruiters. They're often the best and the brightest.
We will be lucky if Obama prevails and we get more of them.

(7,699 posts)My husband has severe chronic kidney disease, and other issues, and his diet is severely restricted as far as sodium, potassium, carbs, proteins and fats (the last three comprising every type of calorie possible...makes it quite difficult to restrict all types).
Being on a very restricted diet is actually rather miserable, and keeping up your morale is very important when you are ill with a life-threatening condition. Well, conditions in the plural.
My hubby eats Pepperidge Farm cookies several times a day (he has to eat six meals/snacks a day). He loves them.
They list the amount of potassium in their products, a critical factor to know to protect his kidneys AND to prevent a heart attack (which would be his second), meaning I feel safer in including them in his diet. The government does NOT require food manufacturers to list potassium on labels...so almost none of them bother...they'd have to be doing lab testing etc and that costs money. Big kudos to Pepperidge Farm, not just from him, but from me: this means they are helping to save my sanity and reduce my stress, too...I design all his daily meal plans myself, keeping a database of nutritional information on every bite he ingests.
And he only eats Pepperidge Farm Whole Grain Whole Wheat bread...one of the lowest sodium breads around, plus the advantage of whole grains, too. (Most people do not know that the bulk of sodium intake in the American diet is from bread...using lower sodium breads is a good way, therefore, to protect your health...so you do NOT get CKD or higher blood pressure).
My husband's nephrologist said he can't believe my husband has not yet had to go on dialysis. It's been 3 years and 9 months since his diagnosis of CKD stage 4. Pepperidge Farm gets some of the credit here, for having some of the best products on the market for people with CKD. And they add enjoyment to what is pretty much a rather dull and boring diet (for all of the rest of his life). That makes life more worth living. And it makes me so happy to be able to give him chocolate almost every day!
