We lost 4500 American Soldiers fighting terrorism!!
We killed between 100,000 and 200,000 civilians in the wars to stop terrorism!!!
We spent $4 TRILLION dollars fighting the war on terrorism since 9/11!!!
Now we have more and more people wiling to give up some freedom and privacy to stop terrorism. And spend trillions of more dollars to do it.
This is not WWII where we need to protect countries from being taken over by a mad man.
What cost should we spend to stop 4600 terror deaths every 15 years? And some of those are domestic terrorism that will not be solved by wars in the middle east.
We lost as many soldiers as we have citizens who died in terror attacks.
We are undressing at airports and talking about preventing people from using encrypted messages that the government can't read because of 40 deaths a year.
Car deaths per year: 30,000
Gun murders per year: 9,000
Drowning deaths per year: 3,000
and a list of many more that are more dangerous than terrorism!
Are we really focusing on our real problems? Ones that we might be able to solve?
Hell, send a few billion to Google, Mercedes, Nissan and self driving car technology etc. Prevent 1/2 of the auto accidents a year and save 15,000 people.
I refuse to give up ANY freedom for a fake war on terror that kills 200 people a year. And I am shocked people are so willing to cave to the hysteria.

(3,411 posts)terrorism drives fear deep into everyone.
The body count doesn't matter anywhere as much as the fear it generates.

(45,107 posts)That's not a war, it's a slogan. it's a lie. It's advertising, which is the only art form we ever invented in America. And we use it to sell soap, wars and presidential candidates in the same fashion."

(45,107 posts)Art like beauty, is in the eyes of the beholder. The rest of it sure as shit is right on the money. For an actual republican war Veteran to see the truth in those words is an amazing thing. And the democratic leaders as always on war, follow the lead of the idiotic republican leaders.
Terrorism is an abstract, a tactic and you can't fight something that is not physical with bombs and guns.

(9,497 posts)I remember looking at the names on the flights and it was apparent, not everyone was "American".
And I don't think for a minute that everyone on the ground was either. I remember when they inserted the word American in front of the death tally, and thought "And so it begins".
They did it to start the Us v Them theme.
Boy, did it work.
Why do they teach us about "School Spirit"? This country is a farce.
Back to the gist of your OP, yeah, we are willing to give up rights as citizens, give up life because of far few deaths a year than choking victim deaths...we are sheople.

(17,204 posts)As soon as I saw the tape of the first plane to hit the WTC, I started counting the seconds until somebody would mention Pearl Harbor. Didn't take long.
The sad thing, of course, is that Mr bin-Laden succeeded probably far beyond his expectations, as our leaders could not wait to advance terror in this country.

(9,497 posts)The first day I watched it on tv and then had to go to work.
Stunned.
I came home and watched eye witness accounts that seem to have disappeared into the ethers.
Then on day two, shock starting to go, I listened for the spin.
I found it terribly sad. But I didn't think we were unique in getting attacked, just unique in not getting attacked as often. We have been cowards ever since we refused to land any planes and Canada said ok to all of the ones they did.

(65,076 posts)Waiting for a flight to Atlanta. They made an announcement that all flights were delayed for an indefinite period.
As i'm in a tiny airport, i got back to the lady at the magazine stand who was watching the news. 30 seconds later, the second plane hit. I picked up my bag and went to my car, realizing nobody was going anywhere that day.
By the time i got to my car i remember thinking "Somebody's ass is kicked." Not that i thought that was a good thing, but i just knew that this meant real, hot, war.

(82,383 posts)it is still possible for there to be a terrorist attack here. They can plan one regardless of the military. It's bullshit. And they are not protecting our freedom in any way - this is not really under threat. Terror attacks are all they can do - they can't actually take over.

(4,775 posts)Starve it, don't feed it. Use targeted low-key police actions to deal with imminent threats.
Terrorism is not a war, it's a tactic, one whose purpose is to provoke a war. Don't feed it.
We need to get the MSM to quit fanning the flames, I have no idea how to do so but it is a huge part of the problem.
