having a fun activist weekend here in honolulu! last night was the transgender remembrance event
in honor specifically of many transgender persons killed so far in 2015. for each person killed a pic was shown, we all took turns reading the name and cause of death (murdered mostly with a few suicides) also shown were clips from an upcoming locally made film about the famous night club the glades that featured all drag queens and transgender entertainers, plus stories told by local transgender people, mostly women but a few men. if you are tg stay out of brazil, it is the most likely place you will be murdered based on those stats.
this morning was the meeting of the lgbt caucus of the democratic party.
this afternoon was the interfaith save the world sort of group. some scientific types presented information and evidence then leaders of various faiths had a presentation on where their faiths stand on said issues. oddly enough they sort of all agreed lol
tomorrow at the first unitarian church of honolulu is a symposium on prison reform, including deprivatization of prisons. hawaii sends many of its prisoners to arizona for their incarceration time, so bringing those people back to hawaii is on the agenda as well.
hope you are out there activist-ing too!
