Charlie Pierce : 47 Democrats just voted for terror
In the United States House of Representatives on Thursday, 47 Democratic politicians voted for terror. They voted for terror as a useful political emotion in their districts, and they surely voted for terror as a successful tactic abroad. There were 47 Democrats who voted for terror on Thursday. These are their names.
Steve Lynch of Massachusetts was one of them, and so was Bill Keating from down on Cape Cod. Patrick Murphy, who may be the next senator from Florida, went along with it. Among more stalwart liberals was Marcy Kaptur. And Louise Slaughter. And Ron Kind. You can look at the vote for yourself and see the 47 Democrats who voted for terror today. They voted for terror as a political tactic overseas as well. Imagine you are the parents of small children, caught in the crossfire of the Syrian civil war. Maybe you've got a cousin, or a nephew, or an uncle running a small Motel 6 somewhere in the Midwest. For months now, he's been sending you a little money and begging you all to make a run for it. You finally muster up the dough, and the courage, and a strong enough immune system to make the perilous journey. And then, through the static in your cheap radio, you hear about this vote.

If you happen to be a constituent of one of the 47 Democratic representatives who voted for terror today, why not give your representative a call? (http://www.house.gov/representatives/) Shoot, even if you're not, call one of the 47 anyway. Tell them how proud you are at how sternly they defended whatever they thought they were defending today, because it sure as hell wasn't the United States of America.
