A peculiar tidbit has spread across social media after more than two dozen U.S. governors pledged to block refugees fleeing violence in Syria following the fatal attacks in Paris: Wasn't Steve Jobs, co-founder of Apple and inventor of gadgets like the iPhone, the son of a Syrian immigrant?

"Ironic you tweet against Syrian Refugees on your iPhones as Steve Jobs was the son of a Syrian refugee," one Twitter user opined....

Jobs' biological father Abdul Fattah Jandali grew up in Homs, Syria, The Independent reported. Jandali and Joanne Carole Schieble gave Jobs up for adoption, but later had Mona Simpson, who grew up to be an author.

But, Jobs and Simpson aren't the only noteworthy Americans with Syrian lineage — a group that includes actors, politicians and star athletes.

Johnny Manziel? Does this mean Cleveland won't be taking any?
