Despite other media reports that the Syrians were "caught" or were "arrested trying to gain entry into the United States," DHS said in a release that the families "presented themselves at a port of entry in Laredo" and "were taken into custody." They were two men, two women and four children, DHS said. They were not trying to sneak into the country.
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, who recently said he would not permit Syrian refugees in Texas, tweeted the news Wednesday night, writing "THIS is why Texas is vigilant about Syrian refugees."

(68,918 posts)One part of the story (under the gallery) claims they are. Another part says their status is unknown. I am almost guessing they have visas.

(86,647 posts)"had"... in places like they ended up, things like evidence have a way of disappearing before too many know about it. Visas could have been confiscated and dispensed with before anyone of authority might have seen them or been aware of them. Happens. All my past dealings with uniformed personnel in that part of the country were sketchy at best and most often I was singled out because of my appearance.
