Politics and art and music...and Bernie.
I saw Ani DiFranco last night in Norfolk, CT. Absolutely incredible show. She did another show tonight in Hartford which was taped for PBS's Live From The Infinity program. But last night's show was epic. Really. I hate to use that term, but it really was.
You know how you usually want to hear a band play all of your favorite tunes? Ani played all newer stuff. I hadn't heard much of it, yet everything was fresh and exciting and it didn't matter. People danced as if the songs were old favorites. The energy was amazing.
So, during one of the song intros, Ani got a bit political. Anyone who knows DiFranco knows of her advocacy for human rights, women's rights, equal rights.
In an intro to one of her new songs she said she was so excited about the 2016 election, because she knew we'd have another Democratic president. And it would probably be a woman. That was awesome. The crowd offered a smattering of applause. She spoke very briefly about the old ERA.
Here is were it got great. Ani said she welcomed Hillary Clinton as president. But just before she hit the first note of her next song, she said "But I'm for Bernie all the way." And the crowd went wild. Really. Hillary was met with polite applause...But when she mentioned Bernie people were screaming and cheering.
Just sayin'.
