Having been raised Catholic it has always been common knowledge that if you are pregnant and have a problem that Catholic doctrine teaches that you cannot have an abortion to save the woman's life. That doctrine and policy is cast in granite and there are no exceptions. And it is also true that Catholic doctrine is that ALL contraceptives of any type even mechanical like condoms is forbidden. And is is also true that condoms are forbidden when engaging in sex.
Even though many Catholics practice contraception Catholic health care providers will do nothing in that area when it comes to health care. And presently Catholic run health care providers are taking over many previously non religious health care systems. Between the closing of Planned Parenthood clinics and the growth of Catholic run hospital women will eventually lose health care options when it come to reproductive care.
The Catholic Council Of Bishops have set these guidelines for health care in the US. So if the only hospitals in your area are Catholic or affiliated you are screwed as a woman.

(111,277 posts)and tell Catholic hospitals to close their OB-Gyn units (prime moneymakers for all hospitals) or bring the standard or care up to where it should be. That means terminating pregnancies that threaten the lives of women, like tubal pregnancies.
Catholic hospitals have gotten away with murder-occasionally real murder- for far too long. It needs to stop.
