Nebraska conservation officer Sean McKeehan felt sick as he surveyed the carcasses.

Twenty-five antelope were illegally shot some time last week and left in a field near Broadwater in Morrill County.

“I was very, very upset when I was about halfway through finding all these antelopes,’’ he said. “Then to walk over another little hill and there was that many more.’’

The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission is asking for the public’s help in identifying those who killed the antelope, which included bucks, does and fawns.

Mr. froggy said that years ago in eastern So Dak, ranchers shot herds of pronghorns ("them goddam goats&quot for eating their hay.

Here's a 2008 article about a New Mexico rancher who shot dozens of them. I don't know if doing that is still legal in NM.

It wouldn't surprise me if the recent slaughter in Nebraska of 25 antelopes was done by a rancher who was fed up with them goddam goats eating his hay.

Today pronghorn populations in South Dakota persist at substantially lower numbers than were historically present. Pronghorn densities are greatest in the western rangelands of the state but herds exist in most counties west of the Missouri river and some counties directly east of the river.

Mr. froggy was born and raised on a farm in Aurora Co. and lived there until the early 1960s. Aurora Co. is directly east of the Missouri river.

I’ll be sure to ask the old country boy when he wakes up if he knows the difference between a deer and a pronghorn antelope.

that east river/west river thing going on. But, the counties just east of the Missouri are not really in eastern South Dakota, it's central South Dakota. For instance, there are no pronghorns anywhere near Sioux Falls, Yankton, Mitchell, Watertown, or Aberdeen, etc.

I'll inform Mr. froggy that contrary to what he's believed for the past 70+ years, he was not born and raised in eastern SoDak. If he argues about it, I'll point out that he saw pronghorns where he lived and there are none in eastern SoDak.

you wrote eastern South Dakota, not the eastern half of South Dakota. I am quite familier with the areas of South Dakota directly west of Minnesota, there are no pronghorns there. Western South Dakota, and apparently parts of central South Dakota do have pronghorns.

(How big does your husband think the pronghorn population is between Sioux Falls and Mitchell?)

It's a little early in the day for me to feel like arguing on and on with someone on the Internet over something this stupid. Yes, Mr. froggy was born in the eastern fucking half of South Dakota, but not near the eastern boundary of the state. He therefore was not born in eastern South Dakota, according to you. Fine. It doesn't matter, and it doesn't change the fact that where he lived, farmers/ranchers killed pronghorns for eating their fucking hay.

17. (Neb)-Arrests Made In Broadwater Antelope Case

Nov 2015
BRIDGEPORT - An anonymous tip has led to the arrests of two Morrill County men for illegal shooting and leaving the carcasses of 25 antelope earlier this month northeast of Broadwater in a rural part of the county.

Nebraska Game and Parks Commission Conservation Officer Sean McKeehan says 24-year-old Taylor Mueller and 21-year-old Brent Hoerler have been charged with misdemeanor Taking Game Off-Season. They could be sentenced to 3 months in jail for each count.

McKeehan says Mueller and Hoerler told him they drove into a wheat field at night on Saturday the 7th and Sunday the 8th, then used their headlights to freeze the antelope and shoot them.

I hope they're fined heavily on top of being given stiff jail sentences.
