Gov. Baker says no to Syrian refugees in Massachusetts

Massachusetts Gov. Charlie Baker says he’s opposed to allowing Syrian refugees into the state in the aftermath of the terrorist attacks in Paris.

The Republican said Monday the safety of Massachusetts residents is his first priority. He said he would have to know a lot more about the federal government’s vetting process before allowing Syrian refugees into the state — although he may not have the final say.

‘‘I think at this point in time we would have to be very cautious about accepting folks without knowing a lot more about what the federal government’s plan looks like,’’ Baker said. ‘‘I would certainly say no until I know a lot more than I know now.’’...

‘‘My view on this is that the safety and security of the people of the commonwealth of Mass. is my highest priority,’’ he said. ‘‘I'm always going to be willing to at least hear what the federal government has to say. As a public official, that’s my job. Hearing what they have to say does not mean saying yes.’’

Could somebody up there explain to me why you keep electing repuke governors?! Mittwit, Jane "None Too" Swift, and now this mook?

How does that justify anything?

Return what favor to whom? How is calling a state--a piece of land-- Mass Jr in any way comparable to calling human residents of a state Massholes?

You realize all that means is assholes from Massachusetts? You're calling a group of DUers assholes based on the state they live in and defending that?

If a Jew calls himself a k*ke, does that make it okay for you to call Jews k*kes? No.

Stop trying defend it. It's rude name-calling and it's wrong.

What people call themselves is their own business. What you call me in a DU post is my business.

The Dems ran Martha Cokley twice.

She lost against Scott Brown for senator in what should have been a sweep.

She sucked from the start.

Then she decided to run for governor against Charlie Baker.

guess what happened? She lost.

It should have been a sweep.

She sucked from the start.

Now we have Hillary running with a lot if baggage?

Guess what? If Dems want to run like they deserve the position then they will lose.

Now Elizabeth Warren played to win... with substance.

But let's replay more if the sane BS at the national level so we can all be called Massholes.

the debates.

Our loss. So we're going to do ot again with Clinton.

I don't believe she can make it: partly due to her political baggage, partly due to her fake persona and mostly due to people not liking her.

I also believe that the GOP will not be running Trump or Carson.

First, Jane Swift was never elected. She was Lt. Governor, then succeeded to Acting Governor when the Governor accepted an appointment elsewhere.

Second, the Massachusetts legislature is over 90% Democratic, so the state never suffers many of the consequences of a Republican Govrenor. Additionally, some voters do not want to concentrate all power in one Party.

Third, the Mass. Democratic Party will should never have endorsed Coakley after her unbelievable loss to Brown. Though she ran a better race against Baker than she did against Brown, her performance against Brown was not forgotten and no Sox fan was ever going to forget her calling Curt Hall of Fame Bloody Sock Schilling a Yankee.

Fourth, before Baker, we had a Third Way Democrat as Governor for two terms.

Fifth, we're not the only state to elect Republican Governors now and again. I give you the Terminator as an example.

I had not heard that before. I do know he is great friends with Obama, though, so it shouldn't surprise me.
