(21,088 posts)For me, the point is about not reacting to events like this by allowing myself to become flooded by emotions, and having my reasoning ability paralyzed as a result. It's part of the Buddhist principle of non-attachment.

Yes, that Buddhist principle of non-detachment (in Taoism as well, in a different way) also allows for true compassion

(13,340 posts)I can appreciate your position, but I do not see how it is helpful. When people identify with the Parisians, they are not necessarily giving into emotion. For example, I am personally just expressing sympathy and solidarity in the the face of barbaric violence.
