for not supporting the invasion of Iraq? Remember Freedom Fries?
And now they feel that they have anything to say to France regarding a type
of terrorism that resulted from that invasion? Really?

(115,719 posts)I brought a bottle of French wine to a family dinner and my nasty wingnut sister-in-law refused to drink it. "Fine," I said. "That means more for me." But she was just outraged that I bought it in the first place. I don't know what she thinks of the French now; I haven't spoken to her in about seven years and I hope to keep it that way.

(2,388 posts)I was driving through a small town on my way to a friend's dinner party and stopped to buy a bottle of wine. There was a particular French wine I was looking for and the clerk told me they had removed all the French wine from the store. I didn't get it and so the clerk explained. I just burst out laughing and looked at her in disbelief. I guess that kind of response (though involuntary on my part) just makes that disenfranchized group feel all the more on the outside and I regretted it immediately. We are actually all vulnerable to propaganda that appeals to our 'group' or ideals.

(8,620 posts)I remember Jacques Chirac recounted in a recent interview that when GWB called him personally to request his support for the Iraq War, GWB kept mentioning something about Gog and Magog, saying that it was all in the Bible. The secular Chirac thought these comments quite bizarre.

(2,388 posts)The press was interested in France's response to the renaming of French Fries...geesh.
In response to the change, French Embassy spokeswoman Nathalie Loiseau commented "It's exactly a non-issue... We focus on the serious issues", and noted that fries originated in Belgium. She then remarked that France's position on the change was that they were "in a very serious moment dealing with very serious issues, and we are not focusing on the name (Americans) give to potatoes."
