EXCERPT:
Information has been obtained from Iraqi intelligence sources that the countries to be targeted soon are Europe in general, specifically France, as well as America and Iran, Ibrahim al-Jaafari said on Saturday on the sidelines of Vienna negotiations searching to put an end to the war in Syria.
Al-Jaafari did not go into detail which terrorist organization is posing the threat, but he urged a global response to Islamic State (IS, former ISIL/ISIS), which is currently controlling large areas of Iraq and Syria.

(18,184 posts)I post from various sources because the stories I'm interested in aren't always covered by western or liberal media sources.
In the Bush era we posted articles from all over the world.

(18,184 posts)but there's more of a tendency for DUers to question the source these days, even when it's factual information.
I can understand if it's an offensive op-ed, but I don't like to limit myself when it comes to news reports (as long as it's a mainstream source).

Posted at 14:33
US President Barack Obama and Russian President Vladimir Putin have held a private conversation on the sidelines of the G20 Summit in Turkey. The meeting lasted about 15 minutes.

(2,931 posts)What I see in this picture is a repeat of trying to work with the republican(t) congress that totally screwed him over once they had a majority.
On the left you have Obama talking about collaboration, sharing some thoughts. On the right you have Putin just staring and nodding, while cold calculating how to exploit anything possible in this situation... As a person with generally good intentions myself, I hate getting burned by dealing with such people.

(39,961 posts)We have a history of ignoring warnings about attacks of this nature.
Each time, they are horribly costly not to the military, but to the civilian population.

"Tomorrow there will be an attack somewhere in France. Maybe. I don't know by where or by who."
What do you do to stop it?
Go!

(5,455 posts)Without a rough of idea of the where, when and method of the attack, taking sufficient measures to stop the attack is very difficult.

(39,961 posts)Every fucking time we have these alerts, they get ignored, and people die. Spare me the asinine bullshit when we have surveillance on the population out the butt.
I ran yesterday, and I have to say even in my boring little burg I was apprehensive.
Whoever is doing national security is an absolute shitbag at it, not just in the US, but in all countries.
If you think for a second you will make the population wilt so that they quit doing things that they desire to do like running, attending concerts, movies, and whatever in the fuck they want to do, you are sadly mistaken.
If you are part of DHS, you should be fucking ashamed of yourself because France is part of the coalition the exchanges intel.
Our DHS has to be some of the dumbest sons of goats alive, and I'm not even surprised because I've met a few that it is a damn shock they made it out of college.
No more of this bullshit.

(14,040 posts)but we also don't know what information was passed along in that warning. It may be enough for intelligence agencies to ferret out the details.
The biggest obstacle is if the warnings don't suggest a timeline.

(5,455 posts)And I doubt we'll see the details reported since it could compromise the way the information was gathered.

(22,651 posts)To me it seems very easy to get ahold of weapons to do attacks in most countries? some countries easier than others.
IMO, The hardest part for IS 'Leaders' may be to radicalize attackers enough to be willing to suicide. But who knows, they may have family members as insurance attacks are carried out. Most of these attackers are in their 20s & probably have children & family somewhere.
