In honor of my father

Whose WWII service in Africa and Italy earned him a few medals, a cheap mortgage, and a lifetime of pain:

Wheat fell headless in the field
Till Death did reap enough.

We seek to bury the revealed
No earth is deep enough.

You cannot wash the stains
from minds
No one can weep enough.

Nor shut the past behind
the blinds
No night has sleep enough.

My father said the poem really spoke to him. I wish I knew who wrote it, but the only source I've found has no attribution. I suppose it's understandable that the author would wish to be unknown.

My dad served in the Pacific. My FIL served in Germany. All of my uncles (10 of them) also served in WW II or Korea. My grandfather was in WW I, in France. They have all passed away.
