Why Don't They Ask Trump Who & How He Would Round Up 11 Million...

people? What agency would be in charge? How would they find these people? How would he deal with those that resisted? How would they be sent back and to where? Would they be able to take any possessions with them? How many apartments & houses would be left empty? What about all the jobs they hold that would go vacated? Would those jobs be filled by bonified Americans? Would't there be a void that would go unfilled?

I can keep going on and posing more questions like this but what Trump says as to how he would deal with this might sound good to his constituents - but are they really thinking through all the mechanics to make this happen? Come on people - be realistic.

Their problem is their base, which genuinely wants 11 million undocumented immigrants deported.

When did America become a helpless giant, the Can't Do It country?

The Social Security Administration knows exactly where millions of illegal immigrants are working. They know when someone uses a fake Social Security number at a job, if the employer is following the rules and filing the required reports and taxes.

I've read that in Canada, when a new employee with a fake SS number is reported by an employer, the immigration official goes to the workplace, informs the employer that the person does not have permission to work, and tells the employee they have 30 days to get their affairs in order and report to the border on their way out of the country, or a warrant will be issued for their arrest.

In the US, when an employer reports data on a new employee that reveals a fake SS number, it takes at least a year for the SS Administration to send a letter informing the employer that it appears the SS number is not genuine. It's then up to the employer to fire the employee, or not! Immigration doesn't get involved at all - no deportation, no order to leave the country.

Our immigration enforcement is so lax that we've created people known as Dreamers -- kids who've been in the country ten or fifteen years without legal status. And their parents have been working, without legal authorization, all that time.

I'm sympathetic to the argument that once we've allowed kids to grow up here, we have an obligation to legalize their status. So I'm not saying that I want all illegal immigrants deported, like Trump does.

But I'm very, very tired of the argument "It's impossible! It cant be done! There's no way to deport 11 million people! There's no possible way to enforce our immigration laws, it just can't be done!"

The US CAN enforce immigration laws, if we choose to do so. And I strongly believe it would benefit our American born working class to do just that.

That is how they do it in other countries. If there are no jobs for them, immigrants won't come. That is why immigration from Mexico reversed during the Great Recession.

workers while doing little to the illegal employers.

They just went out and hired more undocumented workers to exploit. Mission accomplished! You're 'doing something' about illegal immigration why going after the poor participants and leaving the rich ones alone.

Here's some information on Obama's campaign to audit and punish 'illegal employers': http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1002&pid=7116232

Plus Robert Reich's take on Trump's fixation on illegal immigration.

Reich: Trump is Wrong; The 4 Big Lies About Immigrants - and The Truth

MYTH: Immigrants take away American jobs.

Wrong. Immigrants add to economic demand, and thereby push firms to create more jobs.

MYTH: We don’t need any more immigrants.

Baloney. The U.S. population is aging. Twenty-five years ago, each retiree in America was matched by 5 workers. Now for each retiree there are only 3 workers. Without more immigration, in 15 years the ratio will fall to 2 workers for every retiree, not nearly enough to sustain our retiree population.

MYTH: Immigrants are a drain on public budgets.

Bull. Immigrants pay taxes! The Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy released a report this year showing undocumented immigrants paid $11.8 billion in state and local taxes in 2012 and their combined nationwide state and local tax contributions would increase by $2.2 billion under comprehensive immigration reform.

MYTH: Legal and illegal immigration is increasing.

Wrong again. The net rate of illegal immigration into the U.S. is less than zero. The number of undocumented immigrants living in the U.S. has declined from 12.2 million in 2007 to 11.3 million now, according to Pew Research Center.

Answer the questions in my OP. One I forgot to ask is: How much will it cost? And that's just the deportation and the cost of building the wall is not included.

so the laws we make are sort of dreams that we have to depend on the immigrants to self enforce.

There are so many people here and the country is very open. It's easy to disappear.

If we really wanted to enforce those laws, we'd need a million immigration agents. Enough to have to raise taxes for. It would become a major thing in our lives. Which we do not have the will for - we are a nation of immigrants. Getting rid of immigrants is not something we are going to make ourselves about.

Far to many corporations and people in elected office have a vested interest in allowing them to remain which is why Congress has kept kicking it down the road and not done anything about it.

Each person gets a hearing before the agency judge, and that calendar would back up for years.
