A nursing student broke into tears Monday as she accepted a reward for helping Omaha Police Officer Tom Arrance last month after he was knocked unconscious during a disturbance.
Im just so thankful to see youre OK, Tiffany Joseph said to Arrance during a ceremony at Central Police Headquarters. I asked and asked about you. Im so happy youre all right, thats my main thing.
Joseph, 30, tried to stop Arrances bleeding and stayed with him after he allegedly was sucker punched by Chaz Hill on Oct. 7 at the BP gas station near 30th Street and Martin Avenue. Hill, 31, has been charged with felony assault of a police officer and is awaiting trial in Douglas County District Court.
Authorities said Arrance, 28, was covered in blood and drifting in and out of consciousness when Joseph came to his aid. Witnesses told police the attacker appeared to try to remove Arrances gun from its holster before taking off on foot.
