Will you donate to the Salvation Army this Christmas?

Even though the bell ringers will be collecting donations in a plain, red kettle - without any Christmas decorations on it at all? No Santa Claus in a manger. No Jesus with a crown of thorns. No Christmas trees and no stars of Bethlehem.

Nothing. Just a red kettle. How are we to know they aren't communists?

I stopped giving to them a few years ago when all that news broke. Plenty of ways to give at christmas time.

I have thought of printing notes on gray-green print paper to explain my position and dropping those in the bucket instead.

I don't know where that money goes wherein when I donate to our local food banks/homeless shelters I know EXACTLY where my money goes and I can see the results.

But their homophobia, heavy handed proselytization and no pray no eat bullshit.

Decide if you want to be charitable or a pale copy of the Inquisition doing "good" works to swell adherent counts rather than to help. If you pick the former and follow through then ask me for money.

I believe you when you say they have such a policy, but I'd like to have a link to post on FB. Thanks in advance.

They are homophobic assholes, and they have given a pretty candy-assed explanation for it. . . They can ring-a-ling their asses off; I'm not giving them a penny. . . . ever.

They are one of the only orgs I donate to.

We've given them a lot over the years. I plan to keep giving.
